Nio Exec Hints at Over 10,000 New Orders Secured Last Week

A key executive of the EV maker Nio teased on Tuesday that the three brands of the group have received above 10,000 orders last week.

According to a leaked sheet shared on Chinese social media this Tuesday, the brands Nio, Firefly and Onvo had secured 10,000 units for the first time in its history.

However, according to Nio‘s Assistant Vice President of Brand and Communication Ma Lin, the number “seems a little bit lacking.”

The tease was sent via WeChat message on Tuesday without any further comments.

The table showed that the Shanghai-based company received 4,100 orders for its Nio brand, 4,200 for its Onvo sub-brand, and 1,700 for the most recent Firefly.

The data implies that Onvo received 2,700 orders for its three-row L90 and 1,500 for its recently updated L60.

Nio allegedly received 2,000 orders for its newly launched ES8, another 2,000 combined for the facelifted ET5 and ET5T sedans, as well as the ES6 and EC6 SUVs.

The table also indicated only 100 orders secured for its flagship ET9, ET7, and EC7 models — combined.

According to weekly registration data shared on Chinese social media later this Tuesday, the Nio Group sold 10,800 vehicles in the last full week of September (between 22 and 28).

The figures represented a 61.2% jump from the previous week’s 6,700 units, as the end of the month and the end of the third quarter approaches.

However, the data showed that Nio accounted for 5,200 units, Onvo for 3,800 units, and Firefly for 1,800 units.

The Shanghai-based company is focusing on ramping up production of both its most recent large SUVs — the Onvo L90 and the third-gen Nio ES8 — which have likely led the registration surge.

Between September 22 and 28, Onvo sold 2,600 L90s — just 200 units above the previous week — and 1,200 L60s — three times above last week’s 370 vehicles.

A facelift of the sub-brand’s debut model was revealed on September 19, meant to boost demand for the smaller-sized vehicle.

Recently, Onvo‘s Chief Fei Shen reiterated that the company plans to produce 15,000 units of its newly launched L90 three-row SUV in October, while deliveries of the refreshed L60 are “expected to start gradually in mid-to-late October.“

Nio has sold out this year’s 40,000-unit production capacity for the newly launched ES8 SUV in just 9 minutes.

New orders place this Tuesday will face a waiting time of between 24 and 26 weeks.

However, Nio said earlier this week that it will use 100kWh battery packs to accelerate deliveries of its newly launched third-gen ES8, a move that will temporarily constrain supply at its battery swap stations.

The company is also awarding customers who are awaiting delivery of their vehicles with “peace-of-mind waiting points” from the eighth week without delivery.

The same approach is being applied to both Onvo models, namely the L90 SUV, which experienced some supplier difficulties during the initial production ramp-up.
