Nio Capital-backed ClearMotion Opens Its First Production Facility

The U.S. startup backed by Nio Capital ClearMotion announced Thursday the opening of its first production plan in Changshu, China.

The factory from Nio‘s supplier is now operational and will produce ClearMotion1 technology for multiple OEMs including Nio’s upcoming flagship sedan ET9.

At this factory, ClearMotion will produce up to 1.5 million units annually of its patented, high-bandwidth active suspension technology ClearMotion1.

The product cancels “unwanted motion in cars,” the company stated. The technology reduces unwanted vibration by up to 75% providing a smoother and safer drive.

ClearMotion is set to announce additional OEM partners “in the coming months” and product deliveries from the factory will begin in the last quarter of the year.

Nio ET9 will become the company’s new flagship sedan and was unveiled during Nio Day 2023 in late December 2023. The deliveries are expected to commence in 2025 without any communicated plans regarding to the European markets.

On Wednesday, the company commenced the large-scale production of the 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery which is expected to officially launch in China in the second quarter as previously communicated by the EV manufacturer.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
