Nio Brand Weekly Sales Decline to 3,840 Units, Firefly Production Ramps Up

China’s Nio Group saw the sales of its main brand decline 9.4% last week in its home market.

According to insurance registration data, the figures dropped to 3,840 units between May 19 and 25 as the company continues ramping up production of the newly launched brand Firefly.

In total, the Group’s registrations fell slightly by 1.8% to 6,530 units across the three brands Nio, Onvo, and Firefly.

Firefly began deliveries in China late last month. Last week’s insurance registrations stood at 1,130 units, crossing the 1,000 threshold for the first time.

Compared to the previous week, registrations jumped 36.1% as the brand led by Daniel Jin prepares to expand to 16 countries across five continents later this year.

A right-hand drive version of the fully electric hatchback is expected to be ready no later than October, the group’s founder and CEO William Li said in April.

Onvo, Nio’s first sub-brand unveiled a year ago, registered 1,560 units of the debut model L60 last week — down 1.3% from 1,580 recorded in the second full week of May.

The Nio brand launched on Sunday refreshed versions of its ET5 sedan and ET5 Touring models.

The premium EV maker is currently transitioning production to the four facelift versions launched over the last few weeks, including the ES6, EC6, the ET5 and its station wagon version ET5T.

These models feature more than 500 upgraded parts and in-house-developed AD chips while keeping prices unchanged from the previous iteration.

The starting price for the new ET5 and ET5T is 298,000 yuan ($41,360) for a full-vehicle purchase.

The company led by William Li aims to double vehicle deliveries this year to 440,000 units, including sales from its sub-brands Onvo and Firefly.

As of April 30, the group had delivered 65,994 units year to date, completing about 15% of its target.
