Shanghai-based premium EV maker Nio sold 3,500 vehicles between April 7 and 13, nearly doubling the figures from the first week of the month (+94%) and reaching its strongest week year to date.
According to weekly registration figures released on early Tuesday, the Group’s total weekly sales reached 4,235 vehicles including the 735 L60 SUVs sold by the sub-brand Onvo.
Adding the 1,800 vehicles registered between March 31 and April 6, the premium brand sold around 5,300 units in the first half of the month.
When looking at the Nio Group — which includes the Nio and Onvo brands — figures for the first half of April reached about 6,735 vehicles.
The Nio brand has recently started delivering its most luxurious model, the ET9 sedan, in China. Later this month, the second sub-brand Firefly will start deliveries of its compact, fully electric model in China — marking Nio Group’s entrance into the sub 100,000 yuan segment.
On Monday, several Chinese automotive bloggers wrote on Weibo that the Nio brand had received “over 9,000 new confirmed orders last week” following the ramped-up incentives launched earlier this month.
However — and as of the time of writing — the information has not been confirmed by the EV maker.
Last week, Nio introduced a limited-time car purchase policy for April under its Nio brand, offering five years of free battery swapping, 0% interest financing, and additional benefits to buyers of its 2024 models, as it prepares to unveil refreshed versions later this month at the Shanghai Auto Show.
As reported on Monday, Nio is planning to unveil its largest and most luxurious SUV yet — to be named ES9 — at its annual event in the final quarter of this year. The information was initially shared by several automotive bloggers on Chinese social media and confirmed by EV with people familiar with the matter.
Aiming at the domestic market, where sales of bigger SUVs have been climbing, Nio’s brand-new model is expected to be over 5.2 meters in length becoming the most spacious model it has ever created.
Nio Group delivered 15,039 vehicles in March, a nearly 27% year-on-year increase. However, sales of the Nio brand fell 13% from a year ago to 10,219 units.
The first two refreshed models — the entry-level ES6 SUV and the EC6 coupe SUV — are scheduled to launch in the first half of May. They will be followed by the updated ET5 sedan and its wagon variant, the ET5T, in the first half of June.
The latest round of incentives is applicable for orders until the end of the month for customers in China who place a deposit on select 2024 models—including the ET5, ET5 Touring (ET5T), ES6, EC6, ET7, EC7, and ES8.
Customers will receive 240 free battery swap vouchers, applicable over five years, as well as interest-free loans for the same period. In addition to the core financial incentives, the promotion includes up to 10,000 yuan ($1,380) in subsidies for customers choosing battery swap-enabled models.
