Nio Brand Deliveries Surge 163% YoY in January, ES8 Accounts for 85%

Nio Group said on Sunday that its main brand delivered 20,894 vehicles in January, a 162.8% jump from a year ago.

The recently revamped ES8 SUV accounted for 84.5% of the total as the premium fully electric brand prepares to launch the Gen-2 ES7 and the brand new ES9 SUVs later this year.

The ES8 three-row SUV contributed 17,646 units, leaving the remaining seven models — ET9, ET5, ET5 Touring, ET7, EC6, EC7, and ES6 — with a combined 3,248 deliveries for the month.

Nio secured more than 100,000 firm orders for the revamped SUV following its September launch, with delivery waiting times reaching six months shortly after.

The 60,000th ES8 was delivered Sunday in Guangzhou, with the last 20,000 units shipped between December 29 and February 1.

The three-row SUV is available in six-seat and seven-seat configurations in China, starting at 406,800 yuan ($58,500).

Nio has not announced plans to sell the model overseas as it works through a backlog of domestic orders.

The delivery waiting time for the model has recently been further lowered to “11-12 weeks,” according to the EV maker’s website.

Nio-brand deliveries fell 34.5% from December, when the company set a monthly record with 31,897 units.

Nio Group Total

Nio Group delivered 27,182 vehicles globally in January, up 96% from a year ago.

The total included 20,894 Nio-branded vehicles, 3,481 from the family focused Onvo brand, and 2,807 from the compact Firefly brand.

Onvo deliveries plunged 41% year over year to 3,481 units, the brand’s weakest month since launching in September 2024.

Product Roadmap

The Nio brand will launch two additional large SUVs this year, including the second-generation ES7 after the model was discontinued in 2025 following months of weak sales.

The new version has been recently spotted in China, although a date for the launch has not yet been announced.

The flagship ES9, Nio‘s largest and most expensive SUV, is scheduled for an April 10 launch event ahead of the Beijing Auto Show.

Management said in January that it expects the ES9’s average selling price to exceed 500,000 yuan, with profit per unit potentially topping 100,000 yuan.
