Nio Launches Subbrand Onvo, First Model L60 Starts at $30,500 in China

On International Family Day, Nio officially unveiled its subbrand aimed at families. The subbrand is named Onvo and the pre-sale price of its first model, a mid-size family SUV, starts at 219,900 RMB, which is 30,000 RMB lower than the Tesla Model Y.

Customers can currently deduct 6,000 RMB off the vehicle price by placing a 2,000 RMB deposit, while deliveries start in the third quarter of the year.

The model features 900V high-voltage architecture, with a CLTC energy efficiency of 92.3% and the world’s lowest drag coefficient of 0.229 for a production SUV. The aerodynamic enables the L60 to achieve an energy consumption of 12.1 kWh per 100 km.

“L60 will provide mainstream family users with vehicle experiences of premium quality,” the brand stated in the release.

Alan Ai Tiecheng, former Vice President of Marketing at Disney and General Manager for WeWork in China, will lead Onvo’s operations. Joining him is Raul Pires, who takes the role of Vice President of Design for the subbrand.

Pires brings extensive experience, having served as Head of Exterior Design at Bentley for 12 years, followed by a stint as Head of Design at Italdesign from 2011 until early 2013. He moved to Nio in mid-2022 as VP Head of Global Design for On

The President of the brand Alan Ai, said that Onvo “is on a mission to create better family life, and the L60 will accompany its users to explore the world, celebrating happiness on every journey”.

Earlier today, Nio CEO William Li announced on the Nio App that brand users who purchase the Onvo L60 will receive 30,000 points upon delivery, while ES8 Founder Edition users will receive 50,000 points upon delivery.

Tiecheng joined Nio in July 2021 as Vice President for a “New Strategic Business”. As reported by EV on May 10, 2022, Tiecheng’s role was clear from the first day —preparing for the launch of what was then known only as “Alps”, the codenamed sub-brand.
