Nio Announces New Limited Edition EVs for Both Onvo and Firefly Sub-Brands

Nio‘s sub-brand Firefly has launched on Thursday a new limited edition for its debut model, named ‘Pegasus Rhapsody.’

The edition is capped at just 99 units worldwide and was co-created with Dutch contemporary artist Jordy van den Nieuwendijk.

“Inspired by unrestrained imagination, it sparks everyday creativity— free, expressive, and full of unexpected encounters,” Firefly wrote on Weibo.

The vehicle is priced from 95,800 yuan ($13,740), if opting for Nio‘s Battery as a Service (BaaS), in which the owner only purchases the car and can swap the battery at designated battery swap stations.

The battery rental monthly fee is 399 yuan, equivalent to about $60.

The standard Firefly EV is priced from 79,800 yuan ($11,440) with the BaaS option and 119,800 yuan ($17,180) if the battery is included.

Late last year, brand chief Daniel Jin said the brand was preparing to launch a new edition related to the Chinese New Year.

It is unclear whether the edition announced on Thursday is the one the executive was referring to.

Over the last few months, Firefly has launched several limited editions,

In August, it launched the Nomadic Maillard special edition, priced at 133,800 yuan with battery included and limited to 333 units — 11.7% above the base model. The edition sold out within 30 hours.

Two months later, the Night Creature Special Edition was released. It was priced from 136,800 yuan and capped at 666 units.

Onvo Limited Editions

The family-oriented Onvo brand will launch on Friday the L60 ‘Ma Dao Cheng Gong’ Edition, with deliveries beginning on the same day.

The new edition’s naming translates to “success arrives with the horse,” which is a festive reference to the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Horse.

According to a post on Weibo, “demo vehicles are arriving at dealerships nationwide.”

Onvo has not yet disclosed whether this edition will be limited — and, if so, how many units will be produced. Details are expected to be revealed upon launch time.

Late last year, Onvo launched the L60 ‘Violet’ Edition, limited to just 666 units.

The edition came just two weeks after the brand had released the ‘Black Knight’ Edition, also limited to 666 units.

The L60 ‘Violet’ Edition introduced a new ‘Cloud Purple’ exterior color and violet accents throughout the cabin, marking the first time the Onvo brand offers a two-tone interior design.

The edition was priced 8,000 yuan above the standard model and 3,000 yuan higher than the L60 ‘Black Knight’ Edition’, which was released two weeks after the L90 ‘Black Knight’ and offers comparable features.

A refreshed version of the L60 was launched in mid-September, with improved chassis comfort and a reduced energy consumption to 11.9 kWh per 100 kilometers under CLTC testing.

Demand Boost

Over the last few months, the company announced several limited editions across its three brands NioOnvo and Firefly, as it aimed to increase demand for its models ahead of the end of the year.

Nio released new color options for the ET9 ‘Horizon’ Edition in November.

Last month, Nio released a purple-colored Limited Edition for its ET5 and ET5T models, capped at 555 units. It followed a special ET5 Touring in October, to promote Disney’s movie TRON.

2025 Deliveries

Nio delivered 48,135 vehicles in December, a new monthly record representing a 54.6% increase year-over-year.

The figures included 31,897 vehicles from the core Nio brand, 9,154 units from the family-oriented sub-brand Onvo, and 7,084 vehicles from the urban-focused brand Firefly.

In 2025, Nio delivered a total of 326,028 vehicles, a 46.9% increase from 221,970 units in 2024.

This growth was fueled by the launch of the Firefly, which set a new monthly delivery record in December, the introduction of the Onvo L90 in the competitive six-seat segment.

Additionally, the third generation ES8 under the main Nio brand has contributed over 43,000 vehicles between late September and the year end.

Earlier this month, Nio celebrated the production of its one-millionth vehicle at a ceremony in Hefei, where its manufacturing facilities are located.
