Nio Announces Indirect Price Cut Across All Models of the Core Brand

EV maker Nio said on Friday it will equip all of its models with a 100 kWh long-range battery pack as standard while keeping starting prices unchanged, resulting in an indirect price cut.

The announcement was made on the opening day of the Chengdu Auto Show and comes as demand for the “older” models of the core brand face weakening demand.

The Shanghai-headquartered company said the change is intended to “simplify price calculations” for customers while “enhancing product competitiveness.”

Buyers previously had to pay extra for the larger 100 kWh pack or choose the smaller 75 kWh version.

To balance the adjustment, Nio is revising its purchase benefits while continuing to offer battery rental schemes, with the 100 kWh option priced at 1,128 yuan ($158) per month and the 75 kWh option at 728 yuan ($102) per month.

The update applies immediately to models including the ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, EC6, ET7, ES7, EC7 and ES8. The ET9 flagship sedan features a larger 120kWh battery.

Customers who took delivery of these vehicles between January 1 and August 28 this year will receive a 6,000 yuan ($830) voucher toward the purchase of a new Nio vehicle.

Deliveries of the main brand in July fell to 12,675 units, down 38.2% year on year and 13.1% from June’s 14,593.

That marked the third straight monthly decline compared with the prior year, despite updated versions of four key models launched in May.

The brand’s peak in 2025 came in April with 19,269 deliveries. May and June followed with 13,270 and 14,593 units, respectively.

By contrast, Nio crossed 20,000 units per month for five consecutive months last year between May and September, and again in December at 20,610.

The move follows a direct battery price cut announced ten days ago.

On August 19, Nio reduced the cost of its 100 kWh pack by 16% from 128,000 yuan ($17,600) to 108,000 yuan ($14,850).

That adjustment lowered starting prices across the lineup, with the ET5 sedan dropping to 336,000 yuan from 356,000 yuan and the ES6 SUV to 376,000 yuan from 396,000 yuan.

At the top of the range, the flagship ET9 sedan now starts at 768,000 yuan, down from 788,000 yuan.

Under Nio’s battery-as-a-service plan, customers can instead buy the vehicle without the pack and rent the 100 kWh unit for 1,128 yuan per month, bringing the ET5’s price down to 228,000 yuan, the ES6 to 268,000 yuan and the ET9 to 660,000 yuan.

Nio Group is on track to post its highest monthly sales of its 11 year history, according to Deutsche Bank which forecasts 32,000 vehicle deliveries in August across its three brands, Nio, Onvo and Firefly.

The current record is 31,138 units in December 2024, when the company had not yet started deliveries of its third brand, Firefly.
