Chinese EV maker Nio will be introducing a new exterior color option for two models later this week at the Guangzhou Auto Show.
The models include the three-row SUV L90 of the sub-brand Onvo and the flagship model of the main marque, the Nio ET9.
Onvo, the family-oriented brand launched last year in China, said on Thursday that the new color is named “Black Knight” and will be presented with the new brand ambassador Louis Koo — the Hong Kong actor and singer.
“Louis Koo has spoken! The Onvo L90 Black Knight Special Edition will appear together with @Louis Koo at the 2025 Guangzhou International Auto Show, showcasing the true Onvo style, with the full-presence aura of the Black Knight,” the brand wrote. “See you at the Guangzhou Auto Show!”
The L90 is Onvo‘s second model after the launch of the five-seat SUV L60 last year. In the first 86 days, the company delivered 30,000 L90 vehicles in China.
A new SUV, the L80, is planned for launch in the first half of 2026 as a five-seat version of the L90, sharing the same exterior design.
Nio ET9
The new gray-over-black finish, called ‘Dawn at Daaybreak,’ is part of the ET9 Horizon Edition, which adopts a two-tone body scheme and a brand-new wheel design.
This edition was launched in mid-September.
Deliveries began in the last week of the month, coinciding with a new software update for the ET9, which introduced improvements to both the smart cockpit and the assisted driving system.
Prices for the ‘Horizon Edition’ begin at 818,000 yuan ($115,100) when acquiring the model with the battery.
If adopting Nio‘s Battery as a Service (BaaS) system, the price drops to 710,000 yuan ($99,900).
According to a Weibo post, Nio “will also reveal a new Horizon color theme inspired by China” on November 21, at the Guangzhou Auto Show.
Monthly Figures
The Shanghai-based premium brand began deliveries of its most advanced and highest-priced model to date on March 29.
The ET9 is available through Nio‘s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) programme, which lowers the starting price to 660,000 yuan ($92,850) for customers leasing the battery separately.
With the battery included, the four-seat sedan is priced at 788,000 yuan ($110,860) — more than twice the starting price of the ES6 SUV, Nio‘s best-selling model, which begins at 338,000 yuan ($47,550).
In the final three days of March, Nio delivered 89 units of the sedan. Deliveries rose to 810 units in April — the first full month of sales — before declining sharply in the following months.
The company delivered only 90 units of its flagship ET9 sedan in September. However, sales recovered in October, jumping to 127 units registered.
The last time sales of the model had exceeded 100 units was in June, when Nio registered 305 vehicles.
Despite the monthly increase, the ET9 represented just 0.74% of the Nio brand’s total deliveries in October.
The company delivered 17,143 vehicles under its main brand during the month, and a record 40,397 including sales from the Onvo and Firefly sub-brands.
Built on a 900V high-voltage architecture, the model features a steer-by-wire system, a next-generation digital cockpit, and a high-end audio setup, plus an integrated hydraulic fully active suspension.
The sedan also integrates Nio‘s in-house developed Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chip.
On Wednesday, and according to local media outlet LatePost, Nio has secured the first customer for its chip, licensing it to an automotive semiconductor company.
