Nio vehicles have arrived at a Luxembourg showroom ahead of the brand’s official market launch scheduled for February, as the Chinese EV maker continues its European expansion.
Local partner Hedin Automotive Group already has vehicles on display at its showroom, as first reported by Luxembourg-based X user ‘DriveGreen80167’, who visited the store.
The distributor has a second-generation EL8 flagship SUV, a second-generation EL6 crossover, and the debut model from Firefly, Nio‘s budget sub-brand that began first European deliveries last August.
The company registered 13 vehicles in Luxembourg in December and a total of 45 in 2025, according to figures released by FEBIAC — the Federation of the Automobile and Bicycle industries in Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Last week, Nio‘s Hungarian distributor AutoWallis opened its first showroom in Budapest and delivered the brand’s inaugural vehicle in the market.
February Launch
Nio‘s official launch event in Luxembourg is scheduled for February 2026, according to information shared during the GO Electric Day event held last October in the country.
Nio participated in the October event through Hedin Automotive Group, which was appointed in June as the exclusive distributor for Nio Group brands — Nio, Onvo, and Firefly — in Belgium and Luxembourg.
Hedin previously announced prices for the Belgian market in late August, starting at €29,990 ($35,600) for Firefly‘s compact hatchback and reaching €115,580 ($137,300) for Nio‘s flagship SUV.
The share of fully electric new-car registrations in the country surged from 0.2% in 2015 to 27.4% in 2024, while petrol cars accounted for 29.6%, according to official data.
Gen 2 vs. Gen 2.5
Nio launched the second-generation ES6 (EL6 in Europe) in China in 2023, based on the NT 2.0 platform.
However, the brand stopped producing the second generation last May when it upgraded both the ES6 and EC6 to the NT 2.5 platform aiming to increase demand.
At the time, the EV maker said the new iteration of both models feature “a 40% hardware refresh and over 200 features as standard configuration.”
The company’s co-founder and president Lihong Qin said the 5 and 6 series models will be revamped again in 2027.
European Footprint
With Luxembourg, Nio Group is now present across 11 European markets: Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Austria, Greece, Hungary, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Outside Europe, the EV maker is available in Singapore, Israel, the UAE, and Uzbekistan.
As exclusively reported by EV, Nio is also expanding to Armenia, with co-founder and president Qin Lihong saying in September the company had signed or was close to signing distribution agreements with 20 partners worldwide.
In August, Nio outlined plans to enter Singapore, Uzbekistan, and Costa Rica between 2025 and 2026, with Costa Rica becoming the first market in the Americas for the brand.
Markets such as Brazil and Spain are currently being considered.
