Early Tuesday, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Shigatse city in Tibet, killing more than 120 people and causing the collapse of hundreds of buildings.
China giant BYD said it is donating 10 million yuan ($1.36 million) to the disaster-stricken area in Tibet. “The donation will be used for emergency relief, assistance to affected residents, support for rescue teams, and post-disaster reconstruction efforts,” the company said in a statement.
The Xinhua News Agency reported that at least 188 people were injured in Tibet on the Chinese side of the border.
Nio’s founder and CEO, William Li, announced on the brand’s official app that the company will partner with the Nio User Charity Foundation to donate a total of 1 million yuan, equivalent to $136,500.
“The donation will be used to provide emergency relief supplies, support disaster recovery, and reconstruction efforts,” Li stated. “At the same time, Nio quickly mobilized its headquarters, regional companies in Sichuan and Tibet, and local car owner clubs in Sichuan and Tibet to coordinate the collection and delivery of supplies to aid the affected areas.”
“We will also closely monitor the progress of relief efforts and continue to provide assistance to the best of our ability,” the company said.
