Electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio added 58 new battery swap stations in China during September ending the month with 2,556 stations across China.

According to the monthly report published on Saturday, the company provided — on average — 73,595 battery swaps per day in September, with a vehicle completing a swap every 1.17 seconds.

Nio has recently said it will build a new factory in Wuhan, China, to support the rollout of battery swap stations. In addition to the new factory, Nio will establish a new headquarters in the Chinese City its Power division.

Of the new stations opened last month, 55 were the company’s fourth-generation stations which allow the storage of 23 batteries (up from 21 with the third generation) and a faster battery swap process of about three minutes.

As of the end of September, Nio has cumulatively deployed 2,556 battery swap stations, providing 54.10 million battery swap services.

The EV maker noted that over 23,000 new customers used its battery swapping service for the first time during the month.

The company is targeting full coverage of its battery swap station network across all 2,300+ counties in 27 provincial regions by the end of 2025.

The company has also added two new swap stations along China’s expanding highway network, with an average distance of 213 kilometers (132 miles) between stations, according to Nio’s monthly report.

For the first time, Nio provided more than 100,000 battery swaps in one day last week with the company’s Senior Vice President of the Power division Shen Fei celebrating the milestone on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.

As is often the case, the EV manufacturer set a new record for the number of battery swaps during a holiday period, this time during China’s Golden Week, when more long-distance car trips occur.

As of the end of September, the company’s cumulative deliveries stood at 598,875 vehicles with most of them sold under Nio’s battery swap subscription where the owner rents the battery and swaps it for a charged one.

In Europe, the company has more than 50 stations and is preparing to open its first one in Belgium marking the first station in a market where it doesn’t sell its vehicles.
