NIO 2022 Power Day Event: Here’s everything you need to know

On the same day that NIO launches the 1,000th Battery Swap Station, the company hosts its 2022 NIO Power Day broadcasting the event via Weibo and WeChat social platforms. Qin Lihong, NIO’s president and co-founder is currently hosting the event. Here’s the most relevant information given by Lihong.

Home charging piles are the easiest power option to install with NIO counting a total of 127,528 installed. In addition, Lihong said that the battery swap technology is the fastest way to power up.

The coverage rate of NIO’s electricity zone housing (Coverage of Battery Swap Stations in the most densely populated areas) has reached 62.1%. Lihong added that over 80% of the charging capacity from NIO Charging Piles is used to charge non-NIO vehicles.

NIO’s battery swap stations currently hold 3,821 long-life batteries and 5,140 standard-range batteries. The company is about to release the third-generation replacement power station (with a larger capacity and more flexible layout) by the end of 2022. The third generation features an 800V high-voltage platform battery pack and will be open “to the whole industry”.

In addition, NIO announced a 500kW ultra-fast charger with a peak current 650A and a liquid-cooled gun line. The charger will feature be applicable worldwide and will arrive in the market within half a year, the company said.

In June, 52.3% of NIO users used Battery swap stations, 24.2% charge their vehicles at home, 11.4% use the charging on the go technology, and only 0.9% the one-click power-up option.

On May 20, 2018, NIO operated the first battery swap and on April 15, 2021, the company launched the first second-generation Battery Swap stations. On July 4, 2022, NIO reached 10 million battery swaps and has provided battery upgrade services to 17,691 car owners so far.

On Monday, the EV maker announced that has reached a total of 10 million battery swaps four years after launching its first Battery Swap Station in China providing users with a cumulative mileage of more than 1.98 billion kilometers.

The NIO user with the most battery swaps has been to 169 Stations and swapped the battery 1,364 times while 303 users have only used the Battery Swap Stations without using charging piles.

Nowadays, NIO provides battery swap services more than 30,000 times a day for power exchange stations, which is equivalent to an average of one NIO starting from the Battery Swap station at full power every 2.8 seconds.

In addition, William Li reiterated the company’s goal of achieving 1,300 Battery Swap Stations worldwide by the end of the year and confirmed the plan to have a plant to build these facilities in Europe.

As initially reported by EV on April 15, the EV maker started looking for an EU Plant Manager in Hungary last April. The company aims to produce Power Swap Stations (PSS) and Charging Piles in Europe to avoid exporting costs from China. The position is located in Budapest (Hungary) suggesting that the company could build/ buy a factory there in the upcoming months and establish its European PSS production center in the country.

NIO will enter 4 new European Markets in 2022: Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and The Netherlands. During the last NIO Day, the company revealed that will be present in 25 Countries by 2025.
