Firefly, the second EV brand under the Chinese Nio Group, unveiled last December its compact model which shares the same name of the brand.

The model, which has a pre-sale price of 148,800 yuan, will be officially launched on April 19 and is expected to be showcased to the public for the first time at the Shanghai Auto Show, which starts a few days later.

The brand released new interior images, which aimed to reveal the ambient light feature, where it shows a minimalist cabin design following the other two brands of the Nio Group, a centered around a floating main screen, and a small rectangular digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel.

Also on Monday, the company revealed all five exterior colors including Lavender, Plum, Sand, Marble, and Graphite.

The Firefly EV supports both fast charging and battery swapping and offers a driving range of up to 420 kilometers under CLTC standards. The single 105-kW motor paired with a 42.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack from the battery maker Sunwoda, according to a recent regulatory filing.

Last week, the local media outlet Automobilwoche reported that Firefly will arrive in the German market “this fall.”

Unlike Nio’s main brand, which sells directly to customers, Firefly will work with distribution partners in each country. Jin said pre-orders exceeded expectations, with most orders placed on the night of the model’s December 21 debut. Deliveries in China will begin following the April event, while the timeline for Europe remains unspecified.

As part of its infrastructure strategy, the brand plans to deploy “demonstration operation stations in cities with a higher concentration of users,” Jin said. The move aligns with Nio Group’s broader plans to introduce a new generation of battery swap stations.

“The use of high strength steel and aluminium alloys accounts for 83.4% of the body structure – a proportion usually found in higher segment cars, whilst the body’s torsional stiffness of 35,700 Nm per degree remains unmatched in its class,” the company said amid the model unveil.
