Firefly Weekly Registrations Fall 12% to 684 Units

Firefly, the third brand under the Nio Group, registered 684 units of its debut model in China last week, marking a sequential decline of 12.3%.

According to data shared on Weibo, insurance registrations of the group’s entry-level brand fell below 700 units in the August 4-10 period after having recorded 780 in the prior week.

In July, Firefly delivered 2,366 vehicles in China, posting a sales decline of nearly 40% from June due to production constraints, which the brand announced had been solved late in the month.

The brand reached 10,000 cumulative deliveries in July, 97 days after beginning to hand over the first units.

Customers currently purchase the vehicle with the battery included, priced from 119,800 yuan ($16,700).

A version with Nio‘s battery as a service (Baas) was launched in late June, ahead of schedule by over a month, as the company planned to introduce the plan in August.

When purchasing the vehicle with the BaaS, prices start at 79,800 yuan — equivalent to $11,100.

Firefly‘s marketing head said late last month that the company is projecting a new monthly delivery record for August as output ramps up at its plant in Hefei.

Despite Nio‘s founder and CEO William Li having previously stated that each Nio and Onvo brands are targeted to deliver “about 25,000” vehicles per month in the final quarter of the year, the company has not disclosed its target for Firefly.

Firefly announced last week that it was launching its first major operating system update.

Nio Group recorded 6,100 insurance registrations last week, with its contributing 3,200 units.

The main Nio marque insured 2,162 vehicles (down from 3,450) and the Onvo sub-brand posted a 13.5% sequential decline in registrations at 3,243 units.

The tech giant Xiaomi led the sedan ranking in China by registering 4,300 units of its SU7 model while Tesla Model 3 followed with 4,100.

In total, the Elon Musk-led company registered 13,400 units in the world’s largest EV market while Xiaomi posted 6,800 vehicles as it continues ramping up production of its second model, the YU7.
