Firefly opened its first standalone store outside China on Monday in Thailand, pairing the launch with a higher-output Comfort Plus trim and a 40,000-baht ($1,200) discount on the existing version for the first 99 buyers.

The Nio brand said on Instagram the opening “marks an important milestone in our expansion across the asia-pacific region,” and on Weibo it went further, calling the site the world’s first standalone store run long-term under the full Firefly brand identity.

Firefly has so far sold through Nio’s own network in China and through partners abroad, including Wearnes Automotive in Singapore and Thonburi Group in Thailand. The Bangkok shop is now the first retail space anywhere that carries only the Firefly brand.

The Showroom Location

The store occupies more than 350 square meters in the Central Court zone on the fifth floor of centralwOrld, one of the largest malls in Southeast Asia.

Thonburi BlueSky Co., Ltd., the Thonburi Group unit that holds the Nio distribution rights for Thailand, describes it as “more than a showroom” and has fitted it with a vehicle display, sales and test-drive booking, a café and an event zone for activities.

Daniel Jin, Senior VP of Nio and President of Firefly, told the same event that Thailand is an important regional market for the brand and pointed to the more than 90,000 vehicles Firefly has delivered worldwide, a milestone it marked last Friday in Zhengzhou after a record 7,327 deliveries in September.

Comfort Plus

The new Comfort Plus trim is priced at 799,000 baht ($23,900), the figure Firefly set for the standard right-hand-drive car when it launched at the Bangkok International Motor Show in March, and that standard car now carries a promotional price of 759,000 baht ($22,700), down 40,000 baht, limited to 99 units.

Comfort Plus lifts output to 161 hp and 204 Nm from the 143 hp and 200 Nm of the standard car, keeps the 42.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack and 400 km NEDC range.

It also adds a power tailgate, power-folding mirrors, a frameless interior mirror, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, 50 W wireless charging, a rear USB-C port, a fragrance diffuser, direct tire-pressure monitoring and a new wheel design.

The standard Comfort gains the power tailgate too, and existing Thai owners get the tailgate fitted and a second year of comprehensive insurance at no charge, Thonburi BlueSky said.

Booking offers run from October 19 to November 15 and include 0.99% financing over four years on Comfort and 1.98% on Comfort Plus, a year of Class 1 comprehensive insurance, a 5,000-baht ($150) centralwOrld gift card on Comfort or a 10,000-baht ($300) card for the first 30 Comfort Plus buyers, a 3.5 kW portable charger, three years of eSIM data, eight years of roadside assistance, an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty and a five-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty.

The distributor puts the total value of the Comfort package at up to 100,000 baht ($3,000).

Both trims charge at up to 7 kW on AC and 100 kW on DC and are built to use Nio’s battery swap system, though neither Firefly nor Thonburi BlueSky has announced a swap station in Thailand.

Thai Color and a Local Artist

Thai materials list a new exterior color called Thai Tea, while Firefly’s own Instagram post describes a “porto peach” exterior presented in a nod to Thai culture, and the brand did not say whether the two names refer to the same paint.

The Thai launch is the second right-hand-drive market for Firefly after Singapore, where sales run through Wearnes Automotive, and the brand said in November that it planned to reach 17 countries across Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia.

Thonburi Group, founded in 1941, also imports Geely cars through a separate unit, Thonburi Neostern, so the Firefly store sits inside a group that already sells another Chinese brand.

Twenty Registrations

The store opens on a thin sales base: Nio registered 20 vehicles in Thailand between January and September, including one in September, according to Department of Land Transport data compiled by Thai site Car250 and the brand table published by Best Selling Cars Blog.

Firefly is the only Nio product sold in Thailand, so the 20 units are the brand’s entire Thai tally since the March launch, placing Nio 58th of the roughly 60 brands ranked for the year and 60th in September.

The gap to the market is wide, with Thailand registering 552,637 new cars in the first nine months, up 18.9%, and 60,110 in September alone, up 24.7%, Best Selling Cars Blog reported.

Fully electric vehicls took 166,035 registrations, or 30.0% of the nine-month total, led by the Jaecoo 5 EV at 18,380, the Geely EX2 at 10,490 and the BYD Dolphin at 10,052, Car250 said, so the small-EV segment Firefly is entering is already crowded with cheaper Chinese rivals.

Among premium small-car brands, Mini registered 1,424 cars in the nine months and 145 in September, while BYD’s 33,840 and Geely’s 13,229, the latter sold in Thailand through Thonburi Group’s other unit, show the scale the established Chinese brands have reached.

Firefly has not disclosed Thai delivery numbers of its own, and the Weibo post gives no sales target for the market, so the store’s early test will be the 99-car discount allocation and the 30-car Comfort Plus gift-card tranche, which together exceed everything the brand has registered in Thailand so far.

The opening comes four days before Firefly is due to launch a 60 kWh battery in China on October 23, an upgrade it has promised to existing owners, and the Thai materials make no mention of the larger pack for right-hand-drive cars.
