Nio’s entry-level sub-brand Firefly has introduced a limited-run special edition of its compact electric vehicle, as the Chinese carmaker pushes deeper into overseas markets and steps up sales at home.
The “Nomadic Melade” edition, unveiled on Monday, is capped at 333 units with deliveries beginning immediately in China.
The model features exclusive wheels, decals and interior ambient lighting, and can be purchased under Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service rental plan for 93,800 yuan ($13,100) with a monthly battery fee of 399 yuan ($56).
The version costs an additional 14,000 yuan compared to the entry-level trim of the regular variant.
“Firefly ‘Nomadic Melade’ Special Edition, limited to 333 units, is now officially on sale — Together with you, capturing every undefined moment of freedom,” the company wrote on Weibo.
“Choose the BaaS battery rental service: 93,800 yuan. At 399 yuan/month you can get the full package and set off freely!” it added.
The release comes as Firefly — Nio’s second sub-brand after Onvo — gains traction among domestic buyers and extends its reach internationally.
The compact EV was adopted earlier this summer by China’s Urban Management Enforcement authorities in Anhui province, joining the fleet of municipal vehicles.
Firefly recorded 880 registrations in China in the second full week of August, up from 684 in the previous week, according to insurance data.
Deliveries of the model began in April, four months after its official launch in Guangzhou by Nio founder William Li.
The brand also started handing over vehicles to European customers earlier this month, marking its entry nearly four years after the core Nio marque expanded to the continent.
Registration figures show six Firefly units were recorded in the Netherlands and one in Norway in the first half of August.
A joint press launch for the Nio and Firefly brands was held in Belgium last week, though Onvo, Nio’s other mass-market label, is currently not slated to enter Europe.
Nio said last week that Firefly will expand to Singapore in 2026, its first right-hand-drive market. By contrast, Costa Rica and Uzbekistan — also announced as new destinations — will only see the Nio and Onvo brands offered.
