Firefly EU Sales to Quadruple in December, Preliminary Data Shows

Nio’s sub-brand Firefly is seeing sales rise in Europe as the company expands further across the continent, entering new markets alongside its main brand.

In its first two markets — the Netherlands and Norway — registrations have sharply increased over the first four weeks of December, driven by sizeable discounts rolled out in both countries late last month.

According to the registration data platform EU-EVs, Firefly registered 64 vehicles across the Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark between December 1 and 29.

This marks a fourfold increase compared with the full month of November, when the brand registered just 16 vehicles across the same markets.

December’s preliminary total also exceeds the combined 58 vehicles Firefly listed since mid-August, when it began deliveries in the Netherlands and Norway.

Daily registrations in Belgium, Austria, Portugal and Greece — where Nio and Firefly recently debuted — are not available in the EU-EVs platform.

Despite being present in Sweden and Germany as well, the company has not yet unveiled plans to launch the more affordable brand in these two markets.

Discounts

In the Norwegian market, a total of 23 Firefly vehicles had been delivered so far.

Of those, six units were registered in July ahead of the market launch in August, which suggests they are likely test-drive and press vehicles.

Last month, six Firefly vehicles were sold in the country, according to data from Elbilstatistikk.

However, this number has now jumped sevenfold, as data from EU-EVs indicates that 45 units of the more affordable model were registered so far this month.

The sales jump was prompted by a price cut announced in late November, which ran until December 14.

A similar promotion was applied in the Netherlands, as the company launched a Black Friday discount on Firefly‘s debut model from November 24 to December 7.

In the first two weeks of December, the brand registered eight vehicles. From December 15 to 29, 10 additional units were listed.

Sales have already doubled from November, when eight Firefly vehicles were delivered.

A total of 31 vehicles were registered in the Dutch market so far, seven of which were listed between June and July, before customer deliveries began.

Distributor Business Model

Nio re-launched in Denmark last month through a local distributor, where it has already delivered the first units.

According to EU-EVs, four Firefly vehicles were registered in Denmark during October and November, suggesting that some of these may have been for test drives or press purposes.

Since December 1, however, only one additional Firefly vehicle was registered.

Nio continues to expand its footprint both across Europe and globally, with planned launches for the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania.

In Hungary, where a media event was held recently, sales are expected to begin next month.

The company also announced in mid-August that it would be entering Costa Rica, Uzbekistan, and Singapore between 2025 and 2026.

Nio will enter both Costa Rica and Uzbekistan with its three brands (Nio, Onvo, and Firefly), while Singapore will follow a similar strategy to its European markets.

It will be among the first right-hand drive (RHD) markets to receive the Firefly debut EV, which is expected to launch next week, as confirmed by the company.

Firefly Singapore teased on LinkedIn this Monday that the last week of 2025 is “the final week of waiting.”

The brand announced a new software update for its ‘Aster’ operating system in late November, introducing new languages as it expanded to new countries in Europe.

According to a new post on the Firefly app on Monday, the 1.3.0 update is now being rolled out to all users.

New features include allowing owners to preheat the battery, improving fast-charging performance, a ‘Guard Mode’, and several remote-monitored functions.
