Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio’s sub-brand Firefly registered seven vehicles in Denmark last month, as the brand relaunches in the Scandinavian market with a local distributor.
According to data published on Wednesday by Mobility Denmark, those seven registrations accounted for all of the group’s sales in the country during the month.
In January, the company sold one Firefly vehicle.
Meanwhile, the main Nio marque, which re-entered the Danish market late last year alongside the more affordable sub-brand, did not register any vehicles in the country since the beginning of the year.
In 2025, the Shanghai-based Group sold 12 vehicles in the Scandinavian country, of which 8 were Firefly EVs, three were ET5 sedans and one was a EL6 SUV (named ES6 in its home market).
The Firefly Select variant starts at 209,900 Danish kroner ($32,700) in Denmark.
Nio in Denmark
The company first arrived in the Scandinavian market in late 2022 with a direct sales business model, and announced the relaunch with a local distributor last year, after 2023 and 2024 sales remained minimal.
Nio appointed Nic. Christiansen Group — which also handles BYD, Toyota, Mazda, and Suzuki sales in the country — to manage local operations for both its main brand and Firefly.
Denmark became the first European market where Nio abandoned its direct sales model in favor of a traditional distributor partnership.
It was also the first and only country so far in which the company backtracked on its battery swap network deployment, closing the only station located there last year, as exclusively reported by EV.
Last month, the company opened pop-up showrooms in Aarhus and Odense, expanding its Danish retail presence beyond Copenhagen to cover the country’s three largest cities.
Additionally, Nio has partnered with Deutsche Post’s logistics division DHL to handle aftermarket services across Northwestern Europe.
Global Results
Firefly delivered 2,657 vehicles in February, a slight drop from the 2,807 units it had delivered in the first month of 2026, as the Chinese New Year Holiday typically weighs on production and sales across the country.
Despite being its more affordable brand, Firefly still represents a small share of the total vehicles delivered by the Shanghai-based EV maker.
Firefly was launched in December 2024 with deliveries starting in April 2025.
Nio has recently opened its first multi-brand store in China, as it aims to increase brand awareness for its Onvo and Firefly sub-brands, while reducing fixed costs at the same time.
The second sub-brand of the group has been directed towards overseas markets from the beginning.
Nio exported 389 Firefly vehicles in December and 70 additional units in January.
Firefly debuted in Europe in mid-August, with deliveries starting in the Netherlands and Norway.
Demand for the vehicles has remained minimal, however, registration data shows. From the beginning of the year, the company sold four Firefly EVs in Norway and 19 in the Dutch market.
The brand has since expanded to Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Austria, and Portugal, with Luxembourg following.

Nio began mass-producing right-hand drive Firefly vehicles in November, with the first units destined for Singapore.
While Singapore marks Firefly‘s first right-hand drive deliveries, Macau became the first right-hand drive market where the brand began taking orders late last year.
The company’s head of global business Chris Chen said late last year that the brand would be expanding to Thailand as well.
Founder and CEO William Li confirmed on Tuesday that the launch is scheduled for March 5 (this Thursday).
The UK, Australia, and New Zealand are expected to follow.
