Firefly Delivers 5,445 EVs in Sept. 1–26, Reaches 20,000 in Five Months

Nio Group’s entry level brand Firefly said on Saturday it had delivered its 20,000th unit of its debut model, less than five months after sales began in China.

The marque, which began deliveries on April 29, had handed over 14,555 vehicles through the end of August.

The 20,000th milestone means Firefly delivered 5,445 units in the first 26 days of September, already its strongest month to date, ahead of official monthly figures due on October 1.

The 20,000th unit was delivered this Saturday in Suzhou, 64 days after the 10,000th milestone reached in July.

Monthly volumes since launch were 231 units in April, 3,680 in May, 3,932 in June, 2,366 in July and 4,346 in August.

Brand chief Daniel Ge said earlier this week September sales would surpass 5,000 units.

Also battery swap compatible, customers will be able to swap the vehicle’s battery at the upcoming fifth generation stations, which Nio will begin rolling out early next year.

The model is equipped with a 42.1 kWh battery featuring a driving range of 330 km in the WLTP cycle.

Its average energy consumption is 14.5 kWh / 100 km (WLTP combined) with the brand saying it can go down to 9.5 kWh/100 km in city cycle.

The model is priced from 119,800 yuan ($16,800) in China, or 79,800 yuan under Nio’s battery-as-a-service scheme, introduced in June.

European rollouts began last month, with sticker prices starting at NOK 279,900 ($27,300) in Norway and €29,900 ($34,600) in the Netherlands.

Deutsche Bank analyst Wang Bin said last week the firm expects Nio Group’s total deliveries in September to be at about 35,000 units across the three brands.

Firefly has confirmed plans to expand into Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria, alongside Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland and Romania.

The brand started deliveries in the Netherlands and in Norway on August 14.

Co-founder Lihong Qin said last weekend the group is in or near contract-signing with more than 20 overseas distributors.

Ge said Shanghai accounts for about 10% of Firefly sales and that the brand is targeting 100,000 cumulative customers by September 2026.

Meeting that goal would require average monthly deliveries of about 6,700 units.

Firefly, Nio’s third brand launched in December 2024, has also begun rolling out software upgrades.

Its latest Aster 1.2.0 update adds new driver-assistance functions and an AI voice assistant, after the model earned five-star ratings in both Euro NCAP and China NCAP crash tests.
