Firefly, the third brand under China’s Nio Group, delivered 3,932 vehicles in June, up 6.8% from May, the company said on Tuesday.
The sub-brand had delivered 3,680 units in its first full month of sales after launching deliveries in late April.
Cumulative deliveries since launch now total 7,843 vehicles, as Firefly ramps up sales in China ahead of a broader European rollout later this year.
Nio founder and CEO William Li introduced Firefly in December at the company’s annual event in Guangzhou to more than 22,000 people.
While Li has targeted fourth-quarter delivery of 25,000 units per month for each Nio and Onvo brands, no official guidance has been provided for Firefly.
In the final week of June, from the 23rd to the 29th, Firefly recorded 820 vehicle insurance registrations in China, up from 470 the previous week.
In June, the brand also launched its Battery as a Service (BaaS) purchase plan, ahead of the previously announced August 1 start. The subscription scheme lowers the vehicle’s upfront cost by excluding the battery pack from the base price.
The entry-level model now starts at 79,800 yuan ($11,100), a reduction of 40,000 yuan, while a higher-spec version was cut from 125,800 yuan to 85,800 yuan — a 31.8% drop. Buyers pay a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan ($56).
To attract early adopters, Firefly offered a promotion for purchases made by the end of June, waiving every second monthly battery fee for up to three years.
Targeting rivals such as BMW’s Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart, Firefly is also preparing to enter the European market.
According to the company’s booking platform, test drives in the Netherlands will begin on July 7, with Norway to follow later in the summer.
This week, Nio said the brand received two honors at the 2025 German Brand Award — “Newcomer of the Year” and “Best of Best” in the “Transport & Mobility” category — as Firefly gears up for its international debut.
Firefly’s hatchback was designed primarily for European consumers, and recent right-hand-drive prototypes spotted in Victoria, Australia, indicate further export ambitions.
Last month, two photos of a right-hand-drive Firefly EV in Australia circulated on social media, suggesting that the brand is testing its debut model in the country.
The hatchback was spotted uncovered but with its logo concealed, bearing a license plate from Victoria, a state in southeastern Australia.
Nio confirmed this month it is expanding to Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgarian before the end of 2026.
Over the next 18 months, both brands will also arrive in Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria besides the already announced Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic.
