Firefly Aims to Deliver an Average of 6,700 EVs Per Month Over Next 12 Months

Nio Group’s newest brand is approaching its 20,000th delivery in China as the sub-brand prepares to report a new record in monthly sales for the month of September.

The brand’s chief Daniel Ge said on Friday that Shanghai — where the Nio Group is headquartered — accounts for about 10% of Firefly’s sales and that the marque is targeting 100,000 customers by this time next year.

The brand reached 10,000 deliveries in mid July with the executive saying this Friday that Firefly went from 10,000 to 20,000 units in about 60 days.

Customers in China currently purchase the vehicle with a battery included, priced from 119,800 yuan ($16,800).

A version using Nio’s battery-as-a-service plan was introduced in late June ahead of schedule, with upfront prices starting at 79,800 yuan ($11,100). Firefly reached 10,000 cumulative deliveries in July, in just 97 days.

Firefly sales hit a record in August, with registrations across China and the first vehicles delivered in Europe, beginning in Norway and the Netherlands.

The model is priced from NOK 279,900 ($27,300) in Norway and €29,900 ($34,600) in the Netherlands, and is being rolled out through local dealerships alongside Nio’s main premium lineup.

Firefly’s debut in late April generated just 231 units, but sales climbed to 3,680 in May and 3,932 in June.

Deliveries slipped to 2,366 in July before rebounding to 4,346 in August, its highest monthly total yet.

Ge said September volumes will surpass 5,000 units, confirming a continued upward trend, though the official figures will be released next week on October 1.

Nio has previously said Firefly’s production capacity will peak at 6,000 units per month in the final quarter of 2025.

Meeting the 100,000-customer target by September 2026 will require an additional 80,000 deliveries over the next 12 months, equal to an average of around 6,700 units per month.

That is roughly 50% higher than Firefly’s current record, underscoring the importance of ramping output to maximum planned capacity.

The debut model recently earned five-star ratings in both Euro NCAP and China’s NCAP safety tests, outperforming direct rivals such as Renault’s upcoming 5 EV and BYD’s Dolphin Surf.

After its first major operating system update in August, the brand began rolling out the Aster 1.2.0 update this week, adding more assisted-driving features and infotainment options, including a smarter AI voice assistant named Lumo.

New safety functions include Rear Collision Warning and the ability for Adaptive Cruise Control and Pilot Assist to activate automatically in poor weather.

Firefly’s Net Promoter Score has also been climbing, Ge said, giving the brand “huge confidence” as it scales.
