Chinese EV Maker Nio Cuts ES8 Wait Time to 13-14 Weeks

Nio shortened the estimated delivery time for its best-selling ES8 sport utility vehicle to 13-14 weeks, the fifth reduction since the redesigned model launched in late September.

The Chinese electric vehicle maker received over 100,000 firm orders for the model in just a few days.

The updated timeline, displayed on Nio‘s website as of Tuesday, marks a reduction from the 15-16 week range shown since January 13.

Customers placing orders now can expect delivery in late April, roughly three months from now.

The wait time has fallen from 24-26 weeks — equivalent to half a year — displayed a day after orders opened in late September.

50,000 Milestone

Nio said Sunday it delivered the 50,000th unit of its third-generation ES8, reaching the milestone 120 days after customer handovers began and 19 days after crossing 40,000 deliveries.

“Thrilled to share that the All-New ES8 reaches 50,000 deliveries today, achieved in just 120 days!” founder and CEO William Li wrote on X.

On Weibo, Li noted that the ES8 ranked first in insurance registrations across 46 cities in the large SUV segment during December.

The model accounted for 46.3% of Nio Group‘s total deliveries that month.

“It can be said that the all-new ES8 has become the latest trend in the large three-row SUV segment in the Chinese auto market,” he said.

Pace Moderates in January

The milestone signals a slowdown in delivery pace following December’s year-end push.

Nio delivered approximately 7,529 ES8 units in the first 18 days of January, an average of 418 vehicles per day, compared with roughly 909 units daily in the second half of December.

The ES8 has seen steep monthly acceleration since deliveries began September 21.

Nio handed over 2,803 units that month, rising to 6,703 in October, 10,689 in November, and 22,276 in December.

The model recorded 22,258 retail sales in China in December, making it the best-selling large SUV in the market by single-month volume.

Production Beats Target

Nio‘s third factory, where the ES8 is produced, manufactured 43,668 units of the third-generation model in 2025, exceeding the company’s production target by nearly 3,700 vehicles.

The third-generation ES8, launched September 20 at Nio‘s annual event in Hangzhou, is priced more than 100,000 yuan below its predecessor.

The six-seat Executive Signature Edition starts at 446,800 yuan ($64,100), while the Executive Luxury Edition begins at 406,800 yuan ($58,400).

A seven-seat Executive Luxury Edition is also available at the same starting price.

Nio‘s battery-rental model, which allows buyers to purchase the vehicle without the battery pack and subscribe to a swapping service instead, enables the ES8 to reach a lower price point.
