Hyla, the sub-brand of the hydrogen and battery electric truck maker Nikola, announced Wednesday that it will open its first station in Northern California next month.

Nikola stated that the West Sacramento station, in its first phase, will have the capacity to fuel up to 20 hydrogen fuel cell Class 8 trucks daily. The company did not disclose details about capacity increases in future phases.

In a statement, Nikola Energy President Ole Hoefelmann said the truck maker continues its “planned rollout to strengthen the north-south I-5 freight corridor and expand coverage areas from the Port of Oakland.”

Nikola has recently filed a prospectus announcing plans for the potential resale of up to 34.1 million shares by selling stockholders. Additionally, the company said it had entered an equity distribution agreement with BTIG allowing it to sell up to $100 million worth of common stock in an at-the-market offering.

Following the announcement, shares of Nikola opened slightly higher at $1.22 after having hit a new record low at $1.15 on Monday.

The company has recently announced a recall of 72 of its 2022-2023 battery electric (BEV) trucks due to a defect in the instrument cluster display.

On the last day of October, amid the release of the third quarter financial results, the EV startup reaffirmed its volume guidance of 300-350 hydrogen-powered trucks by year-end indicating that it expects to produce between 100 and 150 vehicles this quarter.
