Electric and hydrogen truck maker Nikola said on Tuesday it sold 22 fully electric trucks to WattEV, a provider of heavy-duty truck charging infrastructure and electric Trucks-as-a-Service (TaaS).
The sale, arranged through the company’s recently added dealer Next Generation Trucks, follows WattEV’s purchase of 14 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in 2023.
In mid November, the company announced a recall of 72 of its 2022-2023 battery electric (BEV) trucks due to a defect in the instrument cluster display. In the third quarter earnings call, Nikola‘s management said it had redelivered 78 BEV trucks to dealers and fleet customers citing “overwhelmingly positive feedback” after a previous major recall that forced the company to fix all its trucks last year.
Nikola is expected to report fourth-quarter production and sales figures on Thursday, January 2. The company’s shares hit a record low of $1.08 last week, narrowly above Nasdaq’s $1 minimum listing requirement. Nikola’s stock shed 95.47% of its value in 2024.
In October, amid the third quarter earnings report, Nikola reaffirmed its annual delivery target of 300 to 350 trucks, implying fourth-quarter deliveries of 100 to 150 vehicles — a potential quarterly record for the company.
Nikola produced 83 trucks in the third quarter and 203 in the first nine months of the year. Deliveries reached 88 units in the third quarter, setting a quarterly record and bringing year-to-date deliveries to 200 by the end of September.
