Lucid’s US Gravity Registrations Drop to 5 Units in April, Motor Intelligence Says

Premium electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors registered 820 vehicles in the United States in April, down from 942 units in March, according to data released Thursday by Motor Intelligence.

Despite the monthly decline, April sales rose 32% year-over-year, compared with 622 units in April 2024, when Lucid had yet to launch its second model, the Gravity SUV.

Of the 942 vehicles registered in March, 912 were Air sedans and 30 were Gravity SUVs. In April, Motor Intelligence estimated that only five Gravity SUVs were registered, while the Air accounted for the remaining 815 units.

The Gravity, a three-row SUV that can seat up to seven passengers, is in its production ramp-up phase, according to what the interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said in late March. The company previously said the first Gravity units were delivered to employees, family members, and friends, with customer deliveries expected to begin by the end of April.

“And by the end of April, we will resume customer deliveries of the Gravity,” Winterhoff said in late March.

As reported by EV last week, one Lucid customer wrote on Reddit that he was invited to take delivery of the first Gravity Dream Edition on April 30, with Lucid planning a special handover event attended by Winterhoff.

However, as of the time of writing, neither the company nor Winterhoff has publicly confirmed whether the delivery took place.

As exclusively reported by EV in early April, the production start of the SUV was facing continued delays, with early production hampered by safety issues, according to a person familiar with the launch plans.

The company has not communicated delivery targets for the Gravity. However, the same source told EV that April volumes would be “very small,” and that higher-volume output likely won’t begin until “June or July.”

Lucid registered 2,412 vehicles in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2024, according to Motor Intelligence estimates. The Saudi-backed automaker aims to produce about 20,000 vehicles in 2025, nearly double its output in 2024.

Orders for the Gravity Dream Edition opened in November, with prices starting just under $95,000.

Lucid extended its April sales incentives through May 7, maintaining lease rates starting at $549 per month for the entry-level Air Pure.

Lease offers for the Touring and Grand Touring trims remain at $569 and $849 per month, respectively. Promotional perks include up to $20,500 in total savings through a combination of financing incentives, a $1,000 on-site bonus, and $4,000 in trade-in credits for Tesla. Financing is available with interest rates as low as 1.99% APR.

In an interview with Fox Business in late March, Winterhoff said roughly half of Lucid’s new customers were former Tesla owners, as Elon Musk’s company faces a growing number of reported attacks on its locations and customers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

For April, Motor Intelligence estimates that Rivian sold 2,970 vehicles, Polestar 460, and Tesla 45,875 units.
