Lucid Motors’ upcoming production batch of its new Gravity SUV will be available “in 4-8 weeks” and include “about 87” units, a pre-order holder said on Reddit, citing a company salesperson.
“Gravity is being built in batches, the next batch you can choose from will be available in 4-8 weeks, [early-late June]” the user AmyCornyBarrett wrote on Saturday. “Only in black/green and about 87 built in the batch.”
The Reddit post indicates Lucid is still in the early production stage, five months after the first unit rolled off the production line in Arizona on December 5.
According to the post, customers with pre-orders are being offered a narrow set of choices and a waiting period of up to two months before selecting their configuration.
Lucid has not publicly revealed the ramp-up pace of Gravity’s production. Despite its promise to resume customer deliveries in the U.S. by “end April,” the EV maker did not announce any deliveries of the new model on its social media.
As reported by EV last week, a customer who ordered a Dream Edition Lucid Gravity said the company invited him to become the first official owner of the trim at a filmed handover event with the interim CEO scheduled for April 30.
When he requested to delay the delivery, Lucid reportedly said the date could not be changed. However, and as of Monday noon, the carmaker has not yet announced the delivery of any Gravity Dream Edition.
The company registered just five Gravity units across the U.S. in April, down from 30 in March, according to U.S. vehicle registration data from Motor Intelligence.
Lucid does not report monthly sales figures, and its first-quarter delivery total did not include a breakdown by model, so the exact number of Gravity SUVs delivered to customers is unknown.
The first pre-production unit was driven in July by then-Chief Executive Officer Peter Rawlinson, who later announced the official production kickoff in a LinkedIn post on December 5.
Lucid interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said in March that customer deliveries were expected to begin by the end of April, though the company has not confirmed any customer handovers.
Lucid began preorders for the Grand Touring trim of the Gravity SUV in November, with prices starting just under $95,000 — excluding fees.
A person familiar with the launch plans previously told EV that April volumes would be “very small,” with higher production output not expected until “June or July.” According to Motor Intelligence figures, the output of the Gravity SUV remains very limited,
Lucid’s DreamDrive 2 system offers advanced semi-autonomous features, including hands-free driving and automatic lane changes. It uses 12 exterior cameras, 5 radar units, 1 lidar sensor, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to enable its capabilities.
“Gravity DreamDrive Pro 2 will come with hands free driving on delivery,” the Reddit user wrote in the post. “DreamDrive 2 Premium is equivalent to the current state of hands-on driving of current [Lucid] Airs,” he added.
