Lucid Motors released a minor software update for its Gravity SUV this week, five weeks after a major overhaul that the company said resolved “close to 95%” of the issues that had plagued the electric vehicle since its launch.
Version 3.4.4 includes two fixes, including improved AC charging in certain conditions and improved Drive Assist availability and behavior, according to release notes first reported by the platform Lucid Tracker.
The update is the first patch since version 3.4.1, a major release pushed in the final days of January that introduced a see-through vehicle display, enhanced audio controls, and improved key fob recognition — one of the most persistent complaints among Gravity owners.
Version 3.4.1 was the update that SVP of Engineering and Digital Emad Dlala said addressed “90% — or even close to 95%” of known issues in an interview with Out of Spec founder Kyle Conner.
Dlala said at the time that a follow-up update would arrive within “six to eight weeks” to address remaining concerns. The 3.4.4 patch falls within that window but is notably limited in scope, with only two items in its release notes.
Lucid Tracker data shows the Gravity has averaged 24 days between software releases since the vehicle’s launch, with 134 days between feature updates.
Software Saga
In December, new software-related complaints went viral across X, YouTube and Reddit, with owners detailing key fob recognition failures, navigation malfunctions, HVAC problems and other glitches.
One Reddit user described numerous issues encountered during a four-hour drive home after taking delivery.
Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff addressed the complaints in an email to Gravity customers in December, acknowledging the company had failed to meet its own standards.
“We recognize that we haven’t met that goal for our Gravity customers, especially when it comes to software,” Winterhoff wrote. “To be candid, I share that frustration.”
Winterhoff confirmed that the company had fired a number of software staff, with a spokesperson saying the figure was “more than a handful.”
In early November, Dlala’s role was expanded to oversee all product development functions, including vehicle engineering, digital systems and software.
His expanded role followed the dismissal of SVP of Product and Chief Engineer Eric Bach after ten years with the company, as first reported by EV.
Bach later confirmed his departure in a court filing in which he sued Lucid for wrongful termination, discrimination and retaliation.
Air Sedan’s UX 3.0 Requires $950 Upgrade
While the Gravity runs on Lucid’s UX 3.0 software platform, the Air sedan remains on the older UX 2.x architecture.
The company has said UX 3.0 is planned for the Air by early fall 2026.
However, first-generation Air hardware will not support the overhaul.
VP of Communications Nick Twork confirmed last month that pre-April 2024 Air owners must pay $950 for a processor upgrade to access UX 3.0 when it arrives.
“The upgraded processor brings significantly more memory and compute,” Twork wrote on X. “On first-gen hardware, some new features, including UX 3.0, won’t be supported without that upgrade.”
The upgrade involves replacing the center console control unit with the same second-generation chip used in 2025 model year vehicles and the Sapphire variant.
Lucid first offered the $950 retrofit in July 2025, initially positioning it as a performance improvement.
The company said the new unit doubles system memory and storage while delivering more than twice the compute power of the original hardware.
2027 Model Year Transition
Separately, the company has recently closed its online configurator for both the Air sedan and the Gravity SUV, directing customers to purchase from existing inventory or vehicles already scheduled for production until the 2027 model year is announced.
“We will resume taking orders when the 2027 model year is announced,” Twork wrote in a Lucid-focused Facebook group.
“Until that time, you can work with your sales advisor to find a vehicle scheduled for production or in inventory that matches your specifications,” the VP added.
Lucid could announce the 2027 model year lineup at its upcoming investor day on March 12, or follow last year’s timing and unveil the update in April — when the 2026 Gravity was first revealed.
