Lucid Motors plans to introduce a new mid-size SUV under $50,000 in late 2026, and that’s something known for quite a while.
The company’s latest update reveals that its mid-size program now includes two additional vehicles alongside the mid-size SUV, positioning the California-based automaker to enter a more affordable market segment compared to its initial two models.
Speaking to CarBuzz, the company’s Vice-President of Design and Brand Derek Jenkins didn’t want to reveal which vehicles the team is preparing. However, when commenting on station wagons, Jenkins said they’re “a dying segment, even in Europe,” while adding “I don’t see us going out on that limb.”
The executive stated that the three upcoming cheaper models will be “be younger vehicles, they’re going to be more athletic vehicles.”
Lucid’s CTO and CEO Peter Rawlinson has recently stated that the EV maker has ‘taken the mantle from Tesla’ as the company led by Elon Musk has become ‘distracted.’
In mid-July, Rawlinson stated that the endorsement from Musk to Trump in the presidential elections is another salient example of his level of distraction” adding that Lucid is “four years ahead of Tesla.”
