Lucid Motors registered 319 vehicles across its four European markets in 2025, a 32% decline from 470 units the prior year, as the California-based EV maker struggled to build momentum ahead of a planned expansion to eight additional countries.
December registrations totaled 26 units — 14 in the Netherlands and 12 in Germany — with both Norway and Switzerland recording zero sales for the month, data compiled by EV showed on Monday.
The weak performance comes as Lucid prepares to begin European deliveries of its Gravity SUV in the coming weeks, a model the company hopes will revive demand on a continent where its Air sedan has failed to gain traction.
The company registered a record month in its home market, where US sales continue to represent the vast majority of global volumes.
Data from Motor Intelligence showed on January 5 that Lucid registered 1,485 units in December. A few days later, the data platform updated the December result to 2,415 vehicles.
Germany
Germany, Europe’s largest automotive market, accounted for the majority of Lucid‘s European registrations but saw a sharp decline.
The company sold 183 vehicles in 2025, down 53.3% from 392 units in 2024. The drop came despite overall EV adoption in Germany growing 43.2% year over year.
December registrations fell to 12 units, less than half of November’s 29 and down from 20 units in December 2024.
Monthly registrations declined from January through April before showing some improvement in the summer months.
July marked the year’s peak with 46 units, but volumes collapsed in the second half — falling to just one unit in October before partially recovering in November.
The struggles have prompted Lucid to shift to a dealership-based business model in Germany, moving away from its direct sales approach.
According to the European head Lawrence Hamilton, the California-based EV maker plans to “be represented in 12 to 15 cities” during the initial phase of its mixed business model in Germany.
At a later stage, Lucid aims to have approximately 50 to 60 sales locations across the country.
Switzerland
Switzerland registered 64 vehicles in 2025, more than doubling from 26 units in 2024, making it Lucid‘s only European market to show year-over-year growth.
However, the momentum faded in the second half.
After peaking at 22 units in July, registrations declined sharply through year-end. December marked the second consecutive month with zero sales, following November’s nine units.
All vehicles registered in Switzerland were the Lucid Air sedan, according to registration platform EU-EVs.
Netherlands
Lucid registered 53 vehicles in the Netherlands in 2025, a slight increase from 47 units in 2024.
The company established its European headquarters in the Netherlands in 2021 as it prepared to enter the continent through the Dutch, Norwegian, German, and Swiss markets.
Three years after its official launch in the Dutch market, monthly registrations remain in the single digits.
December’s 14 units marked the strongest month of the year, rebounding from zero sales in November and bringing fourth-quarter registrations to 16 units.
Norway
Norway, the country with the world’s highest EV adoption rate, proved to be Lucid‘s weakest European market.
The company registered just 19 vehicles in 2025, all but one being the Air sedan. December marked the fourth consecutive month with zero sales.
In Norway, the entry-level Air Pure starts at NOK 959,000 ($95,250), a price that was reduced earlier in the year from NOK 1,120,150 ($111,260) in an attempt to stimulate demand.
Lucid entered the Norwegian market in early 2023.
Spain Entry
Separately, the first Lucid vehicles registered in Spain appeared in the November data, ahead of a planned official market entry in 2026.
There were three vehicles in November — two Air Pure and one Air Touring — followed by one additional unit in December, for a total of four vehicles.
Expansion Plans
Lucid announced in September that it will expand into eight additional European markets in 2026, tripling its continental footprint to 12 countries.
“In total, next year our plans are to open in eight additional markets. So, we are rapidly expanding in Europe,” interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said in a Q&A session in Germany attended by EV.
As first reported by EV in December, Belgium will be among the new markets.
Europe President Lawrence Hamilton confirmed that Denmark will also be included, while Winterhoff said France is part of the 2026 expansion.
In mid 2025, Hamilton said Lucid was planning expansion to the top five European markets over the following 18 months, including the UK, France, Italy, and Spain, in addition to Germany.
At the time, the executive attributed the company’s absence in Southern European markets to “lagging” EV adoption.
Gravity Deliveries
Lucid opened European orders for the three-row Gravity SUV in September. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the coming weeks, though Winterhoff suggested at the model’s European debut in Munich that initial units could reach customers before year-end.
The Gravity is priced from €102,900 in the Netherlands and NOK 1.049 million ($104,200) in Norway for the Touring trim. The higher-end Grand Touring starts at NOK 1.249 million ($124,100).
