Lucid‘s Director of Retail Europe Hans Mulder has left the EV maker. The executive will join the Alliance Automotive Group Benelux (AAGB) in February next year as chief commercial officer.
The departure follows the earlier exit of Lucid’s Managing Director for Europe Alexander Lutz who left after one year in the role, as previously reported by EV.
As exclusively reported on Monday, EV learned that Lucid Motors is preparing to adopt a dealership network business model in Europe on top of its showrooms, ‘Lucid Studios’ as the company names them.
Mulder joined Lucid in January 2023 as director of sales in the European continent after having spent two years as managing director of BMW and its brand MINI in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
At the California-based carmaker, the executive was leading retail strategy/ development, and retail marketing. In November, the company sold two vehicles in the Swiss market, 116 in Germany, two in the Netherlands, and one in Norway.
“The addition of Hans Mulder to the executive board is an important step in the further growth of the organization,” the recently appointed CEO Rob Visser said in a press release. There, Mulder will be “responsible for sales, marketing, and the operational management of 125 locations in the Netherlands,” according to the statement.
The company is preparing its next wave of expansion in Europe which includes the expansion to the Belgian market next year.
The California-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer will participate in the Brussels Motor Show for the first time, scheduled from January 10 to 19, 2025. The company is expected to announce its expansion to Belgium during the event. The motor show will feature 63 car brands, including Tesla and BYD but also EV startups like XPeng and Stellantis-backed Leapmotor.
Lucid intends to expand its European lineup next year with the Sapphire variant of its Air sedan, set to launch in the first quarter of 2025. The company also plans to introduce its Gravity SUV in early 2026, with orders opening in mid-2025. A midsized model priced below $50,000 is expected to go into production in late 2026 and arrive in Europe in 2027.
