Lucid Motors saw its U.S. sales reach a new record in March with 942 units, according to Motor Intelligence estimates published on Tuesday. The figures include 912 Air sedans and 30 Gravity SUVs.
In February, the Newark-based EV maker had sold 805 vehicles, including 750 Air sedans and 55 Gravity SUVs. March figures bring US sales for the first quarter to about 2,412 units.
Sales jumped 63.8% year over year, rising from 575 units, and increased 17% from February. The Saudi-backed manufacturer is aiming to produce around 20,000 vehicles in 2025, nearly double last year’s output.
Marc Winterhoff, the interim CEO of the EV maker Lucid Motors, announced last week the company will start customer deliveries in the U.S. of its Gravity model “by the end of April.”
Orders for the higher-end trim opened last November, with prices starting just under $95,000.
At an event held at Lucid’s New York City store, Winterhoff said the company has ‘nearly finished’ producing showroom and test drive vehicles.”
“I also would like to give an update on our production and delivery ramp-up of the Gravity,” Winterhoff stated. “We nearly finished building all of the vehicles that we wanted to build to put them into our studio and for test drives.”
In a separate interview with Fox Business on Saturday, Winterhoff said that about half of new customers are former Tesla owners, as the Elon Musk-led company faces a growing number of attacks targeting both its locations and its owners across the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
Lucid delivered the first Gravity SUVs to ‘some employees, family, and friends’ in the final days of 2024, and since then, it has not revealed when customer deliveries would begin. Peter Rawlinson, the former CEO and current Strategic Technical Advisor to the Chairman of the Board, also took delivery of his SUV in December.
“And by the end of April, we will resume customer deliveries of the Gravity,” the EV maker’s interim CEO said referring to the first customer units.
“Also, you will see probably around mid-April some media reviews because we’re conducting extensive media test drives in the first half of April. And then after that in the second half of April, we will then start test drives for our customers,” Winterhoff stated.
