Electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors on Thursday unveiled the Gravity Cross (or Gravity X), a concept based on its SUV model.
The concept was shown at a private event on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links ahead of its public debut on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 17.
Lucid said the design was inspired by California’s road trip landscapes, from beaches to deserts and mountains, and “explores what it would be like to push limits even further.”
The Newark-based EV maker has not confirmed whether a new production variant is planned.
“This is a concept, pushing the boundaries, not a production vehicle,” Lucid’s global head of communications, Nick Twork wrote on X adding later that it is “a design exercise.”
“We have so much more coming though. Rest assured, we’re not resting on our laurels,” he then teased.
Derek Jenkins, the company’s SVP of design and brand, said the concept car “expands on these core principles to explore new possibilities off the beaten path while showcasing the incredible capabilities of the Lucid Gravity.”
The production Gravity, a seven-seat large SUV, was first unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in late 2023, with initial small-scale production beginning in the final days of last year.
The company has since faced supply chain constraints that have slowed its ramp-up, interim chief executive Marc Winterhoff said earlier this year.
In a fresh update on Wednesday, Lucid’s global head of communications, Nick Twork, said production rates are expected to rise sharply in the second half of 2025.
He added that the company has built more Gravity SUVs in “the past few weeks” than in the first half of the year, without providing exact figures for production or sales.
Lucid announced later on Thursday that it will offer a $7,500 ‘Lucid Advantage Credit’ to eligible lessees of its Gravity SUV after the cut-off of the EV tax credit scheduled to be discontinued by the end of next month.
