Lucid to Roll Out Hands-Free Driving, Lane Change for Air Sedan on July 30

Lucid Motors said on Tuesday it will release a significant over-the-air software update for its DreamDrive Pro driver assistance suite on July 30, introducing hands-free driving and lane change capabilities to its Air sedan.

The update will enable Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist—features that allow for driver-supervised, hands-free operation on compatible divided highways, with lane changes initiated via the turn signal stalk.

The new functionality will be available first to Air owners, with support for the upcoming Gravity SUV expected “later this year.”

“The addition of these features to Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro offers a glimpse into the future that Lucid is building with the impressive capabilities of our software-defined vehicles,” said Kai Stepper, Vice President of ADAS and AD at Lucid.

“With our in-house software stack, a comprehensive suite of 32 sensors, and regular OTA updates, we have a roadmap to continue to deliver significantly more functionality to our owners in the future,” Stepper added.

DreamDrive Pro is offered as an optional upgrade on Lucid models and includes LiDAR, radar, visible-light and surround-view cameras, and ultrasonic sensors.

The rollout follows last week’s retrofit program for early-model Air vehicles, enabling customers to upgrade their infotainment systems to match the hardware found in 2025 model year and Sapphire versions.

The upgrade costs $950 plus tax and replaces the Center Console Control (CCC) unit with Lucid’s latest-generation computing hardware.

Lucid has also recently rolled out the highly awaited Android Auto feature to all its Air vehicles in North America.

Last September, the premium brand rolled out “a major software update” for the Lucid Air bringing improved capabilities, including new 3D lane visualization in the Dream Drive Pro but also Lucid’s in-car Assistant, a new voice control system.

An updated map design “for improved legibility” was also added late last year.
