Electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors announced Tuesday that it will open customer orders in the U.S. for its second model, Lucid Gravity, on November 7 at 9:00 am Pacific Time.
The orders for the $79,900 SUV will open a few hours before the EV maker reports its thrid quarter earnings results.
Orders will initially be taken for the Grand Touring trim, priced from $94,900. The higher-end variant will offer “more than 800 horsepower and a projected range surpassing 440 miles,” according to Lucid.
The cheaper variant, which will start at $79,900, will only start production in late 2025.
The company reaffirmed its plan to start production in late 2024 revealing now that the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring is scheduled to begin production first in late 2024 while the Touring variant is planned for late 2025.
“There is a growing anticipation for Lucid Gravity’s unprecedented combination of versatility, performance, design, and all-around capability,” said Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s chief executive.
“This is uniquely enabled through our revolutionary technology. We look forward to bringing the world’s most advanced SUV to the world soon,” Rawlinson added.
Current Lucid owners will have priority for taking delivery of the Gravity SUV.
Recently questioned about the start of production of the EV maker’s second model, the Gravity SUV, Rawlinson said, “It is scheduled for the start of production in late [20]24 and there are only about 10 weeks left, so it’s happening anytime soon”.
Regarding the production ramp up of the model, the chief executive said the company will ramp up “gradually” next year before starting high volume production in 2026.
“It will ramp up gradually through [20]25.. we’ve got to get the quality right, and really it’s going to, it’s going to run into 26 before we start really, really getting to high volume,” Rawlinson said.
The first model from Lucid’s upcoming platform will be a midsize SUV, with production targeted for late 2026 and a price of “around $48,000” to compete with the upcoming revamped version of the Tesla Model Y.
Lucid said last week it expects third-quarter revenue to range between $199 million and $200 million, slightly below the $200.6 million reported in the second quarter, despite having delivered an additional 387 vehicles between July and September.
