Lucid Motors CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson announced late Monday that the first Lucid Gravity SUV pre-production bodyshell has been built and transferred to the main production line.
In late June, the first Gravity bodies had rolled out of the automated production line at the factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.
On LinkedIn, Rawlinson wrote, “This afternoon, fresh out of our state-of-the-art paint shop and resplendent in stunning Infinite Black, the first Lucid Gravity SUV pre-production bodyshell dropped down from the roof conveyor onto the main production line at our factory in Casa Grande, AZ, reaching a significant milestone on our path to full production”.
The new SUV, named Gravity, features seven seats across three rows and aims for a 440-mile range, with production slated to begin by the end of this year. Here’s the video shared on social media by Lucid’s Head of Communications, Nick Twork.
In a recent interview, Rawlinson expressed bold confidence in the new model, criticizing current electric SUVs on the market by stating, “None of the electric SUVs available are very good.”
The CEO added on his LinkedIn post that the company has now started the pre-production of the SUV in Arizona.
“This marks the beginning of the Lucid Gravity pre-production run on our assembly line. Each unit will help us perfect the process and will be used for final validation testing to ensure top-tier build quality in full-scale production. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to prepare for the start of Lucid Gravity’s production. Not all EVs are born equal,” he added.
