Lucid Spotted Testing Gravity Model at the Nürburgring Track [Video]

Lucid Motors’ second model, the Gravity SUV, has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, as the U.S. electric vehicle maker continues the production ramp-up of the vehicle.

In a video published on Friday by YouTube channel StateSideSupercars, two Gravity prototypes bearing Munich license plates were seen driving on the 12.9-mile racetrack.

The track is often used by carmakers to refine vehicle performance ahead of broader market launches.

Below is the video segment from ‘StateSideSupercars’ showing the Lucid Gravity SUVs on the Nürburgring track.

The Gravity was first unveiled in late 2023 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with initial deliveries to Lucid employees, families and friends taking place at the end of 2024.

Customer deliveries in the United States began last month, though only 35 units were registered in March and April combined, according to Motor Intelligence data.

Lucid has not announced a firm timeline for the European debut of the seven-seater SUV.

The company’s former European head, Alexander Lutz, previously said sales would begin by mid-2025, with first deliveries expected in early 2026.

As of Monday, pre-orders for the Gravity remained unavailable across Lucid’s European markets, including Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland.

Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said during the company’s first-quarter earnings call earlier this month that the Gravity’s launch has faced delays due to supply chain bottlenecks.

“While we encountered a modest supply chain bottleneck that had an impact on our timeline, the more important point is that we’re taking the time to get it right, not just getting it out,” he said.

Despite early setbacks, Winterhoff said Lucid remains on track to meet its full-year production target for the Gravity and recently began delivering the top-tier Dream Edition.

“We now have line of sight to resolving the bottlenecks in Q2,” he told shareholders. “A broader ramp-up is expected soon.”

Lucid began accepting reservations for the Gravity Grand Touring trim in November, with U.S. prices starting just under $95,000, excluding fees. Still, the slow rollout has raised questions about production readiness. A source familiar with the matter told EV in April that higher-volume output likely wouldn’t begin until June or July.

In the meantime, Lucid has shipped more than 600 partially assembled Gravity SUVs to Saudi Arabia during the first quarter. The units are completed at its AMP-2 facility in King Abdullah Economic City, which the company is upgrading to a full manufacturing site.

Adrian Price, Lucid’s senior vice president of operations, posted a photo on LinkedIn this month showing over 50 Gravity units lined up at the company’s Arizona factory. “Our second shipment of Lucid Gravity SUVs is ready to depart our factory in Arizona for Saudi Arabia,” the caption read.

Winterhoff defended the pace of the rollout, saying, “Bringing a high-quality vehicle to market, especially one that we believe will be a long-term category leader, requires thoughtful execution.” He added that showroom and test drive units are being delivered, with the public rollout of demo vehicles “about to begin.”
