Lucid Signs Supply Agreement For EV Battery Materials

The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Lucid Motors announced on Thursday it has entered into a non-binding supply agreement with Graphite One for anode active materials (AAM).

AAM are materials used in the anode of EV batteries where they play a crucial role in storing and releasing energy during battery charging and discharging cycles.

Peter Rawlinson, Lucid‘s CEO and CTO said the company is “committed to accelerating the transition to sustainable vehicles and the development of a robust domestic supply chain ensures the United States, and Lucid, will maintain technology leadership in this global race”.

“Through work with partners like Graphite One, we will have access to American-sourced critical raw materials, helping power our award-winning vehicles made with pride in Arizona,” he added.

Anthony Huston, President and chief executive of Graphite One, enhanced that the agreement marks the first one between a U.S. graphite developer and a U.S. EV company.

According to the company, the existing power lines at Graphite’s site in Ohio are sufficient to meet the Phase 1 production target of 25,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of battery-ready anode material, with additional land available to increase production to 100,000 tpy in subsequent phases.

Speaking to CarBuzz at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Rawlinson, reiterated the company’s ambition to become a volume manufacturer and reach one million units sold per year.

In the second quarter of the year, the company delivered 2,394 vehicles while producing 2,110 units of its model Lucid Air.

On August 5, Lucid will publish its second-quarter financial results and it is expected an update from the management on the annual production guidance.

Drone footage captured last Saturday by a Lucid enthusiast revealed approximately 800 vehicles parked in one of the parking lots of the company’s factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Earlier this month, the company introduced a new leasing incentive of $7,500 Air Credit for customers in the United States. This offer is in addition to the existing $4,000 bonus available for inventory vehicles.
