Motor Intelligence said on Wednesday that Lucid Motors sold 923 units of its Air sedan and 70 units of the Gravity SUV in August, its latest monthly estimate of US sales.
August figures represent a new record high for the US electric vehicle maker and a 50% jump from a year ago.
Drone footage captured in mid-August at Lucid’s Casa Grande, Arizona, factory showed roughly 1,000 Gravity SUVs parked across staging lots, reflecting the production ramp-up as mentioned by the management.
It remains undisclosed how many of those vehicles were pre-produced for shipment to Lucid’s Saudi Arabia plant and how many were fully built units ready for customer delivery.
In its previous monthly report, Motor Intelligence estimated that 890 Air sedans and zero Gravitys were sold in July.
A few days later, at Lucid’s second-quarter earnings call in early August, interim CEO Marc Winterhoff dismissed the figure outright.
“That number is false,” he said. “And that’s all I want to say about that, it’s totally false.” He added, “It’s unfortunate that something like this is published.”
The firm notes on its website that “our sales estimates combine robust data with informed market insights to provide a comprehensive view of the market.”
Commenting on the report this Wednesday, the company’s Head of Global Comms, Nick Twork, denied Motor Intelligence‘s figures again. “Completely false,” Twork wrote. “This is inaccurate data.”
The firm’s sales estimates show total sales of 665 in January (+51% YoY), 805 in February (+33%), 942 in March (+64%), 820 in April (-13%), 975 in May (+19%), and 840 in June (-14%), before July’s 890 units.
In total, August figures stood at 993 units — a new record high for the EV maker and a 50.4% jump year over year.
Cox Automotive separately estimated that just five Gravitys were sold during the second quarter — broadly in line with Motor Intelligence’s numbers.
Shares of Lucid, which completed a 1-for-10 reverse stock split on Tuesday, have continued to fall.
The stock hit a record low at $17.36 ($1.736 pre-split) that day, and dropped further to $16.94 ($1.694 pre-split) on Wednesday before the new sales estimates were released.
Winterhoff has said Lucid is “in the process right now of ramping up” Gravity production and that it will “actually be the majority of our deliveries” in the second half of 2025.
Asked last month about secured orders for the model, he refused to provide details. “We don’t disclose the specific number of orders we’ve received,” he said.
The SUV will make its European debut next week at the IAA Auto Show in Munich, Germany.
As exclusively reported by EV on April 2, a source familiar with the matter said April volumes would be “very small,” with meaningful output not expected until “June or July.”
The 2026 Gravity SUV is priced from $81,550 for the Touring trim to $141,550 for the Dream Edition, with the Grand Touring version listed at $96,550.
The lower-cost Pure trim is expected to add it at a later stage.
