Lucid Says It Is ‘Preparing’ for Gravity’s Launch in Europe

Lucid Motors said on Tuesday it is preparing to launch its second model — the Gravity — in Europe.

In an email to European customers on Tuesday, the California-based EV maker highlighted the Gravity’s WLTP range of up to 748 kilometers and 839 horsepower, but gave no timeline for when orders, configurations, or deliveries will begin.

“As we prepare for its arrival in Europe, let’s take a closer look at the technology behind the experience,” the company wrote. “Starting with the platform, the performance, and the innovations that make the Gravity so capable.”

As part of its validation program, the company recently completed a 5,000-mile testing drive from Munich to the Arctic Circle.

The Gravity will be Lucid’s second vehicle following the Air sedan and the first units rolled off the production line in December. However, only employees, friends and family took delivery of the SUV.

The company has faced production bottlenecks with its Gravity SUV, though the interim CEO has said in recent weeks that ramp-up efforts are underway and the issues are beginning to ease.

In late June, he described customer feedback on the model as “phenomenal,” despite acknowledging a “slower-than-desired” production ramp.

The European tease comes at a time when Lucid’s presence in the Old Continent remains limited, and sales volumes have failed to gain meaningful traction.

According to official national data and the platform EU-EVs, the company registered 27 vehicles across Germany, Norway, Switzerland, and the Netherlands in June.

That figure represents a 22.7% increase from the same month a year earlier but is down slightly from 28 units sold in May.

Lucid currently operates showrooms in eight European cities: Oslo, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich, Geneva, Hilversum in the Netherlands, and Zurich, where a new location is expected to open this autumn.

Last month, the company launched a new fleet program in Germany aimed at business customers, offering tailored mobility solutions, flexible pricing structures, and both national and international framework agreements.

Expansion efforts are underway. In June, Lucid’s Managing Director for Europe, Lawrence Hamilton, said the company expects to be present in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Spain “over the next 18 months.”

Belgium and Denmark are also among the next target markets.

Lucid’s European operations have been marked by executive turnover.

Since early 2023, the company has appointed three different Managing Directors for the region. Michael van de Sande took the position in March 2023, followed by Alexander Lutz later that year. Hamilton, who previously held senior roles at Polestar and Infiniti, assumed the role in December 2024.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
