Lucid Rolls Out Hands-Free Driving and Lane Change Update for Air Sedan

Lucid Motors on Wednesday began rolling out a major over-the-air update to its Air sedan, introducing Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Lane Change Assist on compatible divided highways.

The company said the Gravity SUV would receive the same features “later this year.”

The update, initially announced in mid-July, adds hands-free driving functionality that allows lane changes initiated by activating the turn signal.

Lucid’s flagship system, DreamDrive Pro, is equipped with an array of sensors including LiDAR, radar, visible-light and surround-view cameras, and ultrasonic detectors.

The system is available as an optional upgrade on most trims but is not offered on the 2026 Lucid Air Pure—the brand’s entry-level model.

That contrasts with the 2025 model year, which allowed customers to upgrade to DreamDrive Pro on the Pure variant. The Pro version becomes available starting with the Touring trim.

The current DreamDrive lineup is split into two tiers — Premium and Pro — each offering varying degrees of driver-assistance capabilities.

DreamDrive Premium includes a core set of features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure protection, blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition, and 3D surround view monitoring.

However, it lacks some of the more advanced technologies included in DreamDrive Pro.

DreamDrive Pro expands functionality by adding LiDAR, curb rash alert, and a suite of “Drive Assist with Active Lane Centering” capabilities.

These include extended stop & go, traffic jam assist, 3D three-lane visualization, active curve speed control, and future-capable ADAS hardware that supports more advanced hands-free features and parking automation.

The latest update builds on a software release deployed in September last year, which introduced new 3D lane visualization, the Lucid Assistant voice control system, and an updated map design aimed at improving legibility and usability.

The rollout follows last the recently launched retrofit program for early-model Air vehicles, enabling customers to upgrade their infotainment systems to match the hardware found in 2025 model year and Sapphire versions.

The upgrade costs $950 plus tax and replaces the Center Console Control (CCC) unit with Lucid’s latest-generation computing hardware.

Lucid has also recently rolled out the highly awaited Android Auto feature to all its Air vehicles in North America.

An updated map design “for improved legibility” was added late last year.
