The U.S. carmaker Lucid Motors is having a tough start to the year in the Netherlands, where its European headquarters are located.

In 2024, Lucid registered a total of 48 vehicles in the country. The company entered the Dutch market in late 2022 with the opening of a service, delivery and sales center just outside Amsterdam.

According to official data from the Dutch industry association BOVAG, the electric vehicle brand has sold one single model between January 1 and February 28.

Pure, the entry-level variant of Lucid’s debut model Air, starts at €88,000 ($91,600) in the Dutch market while the luxurious variant, Sapphire, can be pre-ordered now for €255,000 ($265,500).

In the old continent, Lucid is currently available in Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland with other markets expected to be added later this year.

Lucid reported $15.8 million in revenue from its International region, which includes European markets, in 2024, according to its 10-K filing last week. The figure marks a 10% increase from $14.3 million in 2023.

New Business Model in Europe

As exclusively reported by EV in December, EV maker Lucid Motors is expanding its business model in Europe by adding importers and agency models in select countries, alongside its existing showroom network.

At the fourth quarter earnings call, the interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, said the company is “accelerating the growth of our retail footprint and market coverage in Europe” adding that it is introducing “additional distribution channels like importers and agency models for select countries in addition to our existing direct-to-consumer model.”

New Models

Later this year, Lucid will expand its European lineup with the Sapphire variant of its Air sedan, set to launch still in the first quarter. The company also plans to introduce its Gravity SUV in early 2026, with orders opening in mid-2025.

A midsized model priced below $50,000 is expected to go into production in late 2026 and arrive in Europe in 2027.

The company will also launch a tour with mobile pop-up stores in early 2025, in addition to expanding its physical showroom network.
