Lucid Reaffirms Plan to Launch Midsize Platform in 2026

Lucid Motors is preparing to begin U.S. customer deliveries of the high-end trim of its second model, the Lucid Gravity, later this month.

The Grand Touring (GT) trim of the three-row luxury SUV offers a driving range of up to 450 miles and prices start at above $94,900 plus fees. Orders for the cheaper variant, the Gravity Touring, will open in “late 2025” with prices starting just below $80,000 — excluding fees.

Last week, Lucid Motors said it plans to add Android Auto to its models later this year, as it submitted Gravity’s system to Google for certification, according to software chief Jean-Philippe Gauthier.

Midsize Platform + Production

Lucid Motors senior vice president of Brand and Design Derej Jenkins told Reuters earlier this Tuesday that the company reaffirmed its plan to launch its midsize platform in 2026 — which will serve several models. By then, the brand will enter an increasingly competitive segment dominated by Tesla with its Model Y.

Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff stated that Lucid is not immune to the tariffs but is working to mitigate its effects with U.S. supplier agreements.

“We have those agreements already. The plants are being built right now, so it’s not something that we can switch on today, but it’s in the near future,” he told Reuters.

Last Thursday, it was announced that the company won a bankruptcy auction to acquire Nikola’s former plant and product development center in Arizona after the Coolidge-based truckmaker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year.

Winterhoff described the transaction as “an opportunity to strategically expand our manufacturing, warehousing, testing, and development facilities” while it prepares to start deliveries of the Gravity model.

Lucid Motors delivered 3,109 vehicles in the first quarter of the year, up 58% from the 1,967 vehicles delivered in the first three months of 2024. The company said it will report its first quarter earnings results on May 6 after the market closes.

As of the time of writing, Lucid is trading at $2.49, down 1.2% from the previous close. Year to date, the stock declined 17.4%.
