Lucid Pushes Major OTA Update for Gravity Adding Features, Fixing Issues

Lucid Motors began rolling out a major over -the-air (OTA) software update for its Gravity SUV on Wednesday, adding new features and addressing persistent issues that have drawn criticism from customers and reviewers since the vehicle’s launch.

The update, version 3.4.0, introduces a see-through vehicle display, enhanced audio controls, and improved key fob recognition — a feature that has plagued owners since deliveries began.

The release comes approximately one month after interim CEO Marc Winterhoff sent an email to Gravity customers apologizing for the company’s failure to meet its standards on software quality.

Winterhoff confirmed earlier this month that the company had fired a number of software staff, with a spokesperson detailing the figure was “more than a handful.”

In early November, Emad Dlala, one of the EV maker’s two longest-serving executives, began overseeing product and software after the previous senior VP and chief engineer Erich Bach was dismissed following ten years with the company.

EV first reported Bach’s firing on November 12.

The executive later confirmed his departure in a court filing in which he sued Lucid for wrongful termination, discrimination, and retaliation.

New OTA Update

The new software update targets key fob recognition failures, one of the most common complaints among Gravity owners.

“Updated key fob recognition provides more consistent unlocking and quicker readiness to shift into Drive,” Lucid said in the release notes first reported by the platform LucidTracker. “This reduces situations where the fob needs to be shaken for detection.”

The company also said improved power management delivers enhanced battery life under normal use, with low-battery alerts revised to provide additional time to replace the key fob battery.

Lucid recommended owners replace their key fob battery with this update and said service centers will do so at no cost.

New Features

The update introduces several new features for Gravity owners equipped with Dream Drive 2 Premium and Dream Drive 2 Pro.

A new see-through vehicle display allows drivers to view the surface being driven over when using Surround View Monitoring. The feature also shows obstacles approaching the front wheels when viewing the front-facing camera.

“Great for off-road adventures,” Lucid said.

For vehicles equipped with Surreal Sound Pro, a new immersion control setting allows owners to adjust the audio experience from “accurate and focused, to spacious and enveloping.”

The update also adds an enhanced second-row EZ Entry button experience, allowing owners to fold seats flat with a long press and move the front row forward with a double press.

Additional Improvements

The release includes updates across multiple vehicle systems including improved steering wheel button software for adaptive cruise control and Drive Assist activation, better blind spot and surround view display image quality, and enhanced cabin warmup performance in HVAC Auto mode.

Charging improvements include enhanced thermal management for more consistent performance in hot conditions, improved AC charging reliability, and reduced charging interruptions.

The update also improves Bluetooth device pairing and reconnection, reduces background noise during hands-free calls, and enhances wireless connectivity for more robust over-the-air updates.

The previous major update, version 3.3.20, was released on December 12. A minor update, version 3.3.22, rolled out on December 23 addressing only window operation.

Customer Complaints

The update follows weeks of complaints from Gravity owners across X, YouTube, and Reddit highlighting persistent issues with the electric SUV.

As EV reported on the last day of 2025, new complaints went viral in December with owners detailing key fob recognition failures, navigation malfunctions, HVAC problems, and other software glitches.

One Reddit user described numerous problems encountered during a four-hour drive home after taking delivery of a 2026 Gravity Grand Touring, with the post garnering nearly 100 comments in the first 24 hours.

The owner also reported repeated false alerts from safety systems, HVAC noise issues, and key fob failures despite the vehicle never being turned off.

CEO Response

Winterhoff addressed the complaints in an email to Gravity customers in December.

“At Lucid, our mission is to build rule-defying technology to create exceptional experiences to move the world forward,” Winterhoff wrote.

“We recognize that we haven’t met that goal for our Gravity customers, especially when it comes to software. We’ve heard the feedback, and we understand your frustration,” the CEO added before admitting, “To be candid, I share that frustration.”

“We will continue to relentlessly eliminate software issues and add new features regularly,” Winterhoff wrote.

The company also created back then a dedicated email address for owners to report software bugs and suggest improvements.
