Lucid Pledges $87 Per Test Drive to Kelce’s Charity Foundation at Kansas Event

Lucid Motors is linking its national showcase tour to a charitable effort in Kansas City, pledging support for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s Eighty-Seven & Running Foundation during the city’s annual Kelce Car Jam.

The Newark, California-based EV maker said it will donate $87 to the nonprofit for every public test drive of its Lucid Air sedan or upcoming Gravity SUV through September 29.

The foundation funds education, mentorship and other programs for underserved youth in the Kansas City area, with a mission to empower children through resources and support in fields such as business, athletics, STEM and education.

At the latest episode of the New Heights podcast — co-hosted by Kelce — he promoted the charity event.

“Proceeds benefit Eighty-Seven and Running, my foundation that helps out underserved youth in both the Kansas City area and back home in … the Cleveland surrounding area, two cities that I absolutely love,” he stated. “So please show up. It’s gonna be a blast.”

Test-drive opportunities will be offered across the city beginning September 25, culminating at the Kelce Car Jam on September 26 at Knuckleheads.

Lucid will showcase its lineup alongside local talent and appearances by NFL players, including Chiefs cornerback Joshua Williams, who is serving as a brand ambassador.

“Offering consumers the chance to learn about our brand and experience our vehicles while raising money for youth in the Kansas City community is exactly the type of engagement our tour was designed for,” Akerho Oghoghomeh, Lucid’s senior vice president of marketing, said in a statement.

Visitors can drive the Lucid Air and Gravity models throughout the weekend at multiple Kansas City venues, including Ruby Jean’s Juicery, Messenger Coffee and City Market.

Each test drive triggers Lucid’s $87 pledge to the foundation, which the organization says helps “underserved youth strive to become productive citizens by mentoring and motivating them to explore and develop their abilities while learning critical life skills.”

Lucid Motors‘ Powertrain chief Emad Dlala said on Thursday the company hosted Tesla’s co-founder Martin Eberhard at its headquarters this week.

The company handed over this week the first vehicles to Nuro, marking the kick off of the partnership first announced in July.

A drone flyover filmed earlier this week showed more than 2,000 Gravity SUVs at its Arizona plant, as the production ramp up of the three-row model continues.
