Electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors opened customer orders in the U.S. on Thursday for its second model, the Lucid Gravity, a few hours before reporting its third-quarter earnings results, expected after the market close later in the day.
The Gravity lineup begins with the Grand Touring variant, available now for pre-order starting at $94,900. This higher-end trim is projected to deliver 828 horsepower and a projected range surpassing 440 miles, according to Lucid.
The more affordable Touring version, starting at $79,900, is scheduled for production beginning in late 2025.
The company reaffirmed its plan to start Gravity production in late 2024, specifying that the Grand Touring variant will launch first, with production of the Touring model expected to follow a year later, in late 2025. Current Lucid owners will receive priority for Gravity SUV deliveries.
Addressing the timeline for Gravity’s production, CEO Peter Rawlinson recently said the model “is scheduled for the start of production in late [20]24 and there are only about 10 weeks left, so it’s happening anytime soon.”
Lucid’s production strategy for Gravity will see a “gradual” ramp-up through 2025, with high-volume output anticipated in 2026.
“It will ramp up gradually through [20]25… we’ve got to get the quality right, and really it’s going to, it’s going to run into 26 before we start really, really getting to high volume,” Rawlinson said.
Looking further ahead, the company plans to introduce a midsize SUV in late 2026 with a target price “around $48,000,” aimed at competing with Tesla’s forthcoming revamped Model Y which is expected to be unveiled in early next year.
Lucid said in mid October it expects third-quarter revenue to range between $199 million and $200 million, slightly below the $200.6 million reported in the second quarter, despite having delivered an additional 387 vehicles between July and September.
