Lucid Motors registered 20 vehicles in Germany during December, bringing its total registrations for 2024 to 392 units, according to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority.

As recently reported exclusively by EV, the electric vehicle manufacturer is planning to complement its existing showrooms, known as ‘Lucid Studios,’ with a third-party dealership network business model in Europe. In 2025, Lucid is also planning to expand into new European markets, including Belgium.

The California-based electric vehicle (EV) maker had recorded 129 and 116 new Lucid Air sedans in October and November, respectively, driven by a purchase agreement with German rental company SIXT, which now offers Lucid vehicles for rental in the country.

Lucid announced at the time that SIXT would receive models from its entire Lucid Air lineup available in Europe, including the Air Pure, Air Touring, and Air Grand Touring. While the size of the order was not disclosed, the company’s registrations surged in the fourth quarter, reaching 265 vehicles, compared with just 127 units in the first nine months of the year.

Lucid achieved a new quarterly record of 62 units sold in the third quarter, with fourth-quarter registrations quadrupling that figure.

In 2024, sales of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in Germany have fallen by 24.2% to to 380,609 units, a decline mainly attributed to the removal of EV incentives in the country at the end of 2023. The market share of BEVs dropped to 13.5%.

Hybrid vehicles, however, rose by 12.7% to 947,398 registrations, representing 33.6% of the market. Among hybrids, 191,905 were plug-in hybrids, up 9.2%, with a market share of 6.8%.

Tesla saw a 41% drop in annual registrations in Germany, while Geely-backed Polestar registered about half the units it sold in 2023, hitting a market share below 1.5%. Tesla’s December registrations rose 77% month-over-month to 3,905 units but fell short of the same period in 2023.

BYD, which sold over 4 million new energy vehicles globally in 2024, registered 323 units in Germany in December, marking a 54% year-on-year decline and a 25% sequential drop.

Lucid opened in October a showroom in Hamburg, its fourth in Germany and eighth in Europe, following the Frankfurt showroom’s launch in September. Lucid’s presence in Germany includes stores in Munich and Düsseldorf, which opened in May 2022 and September 2023, respectively.

In the Netherlands, Lucid registered a total of 48 vehicles in 2024. Globally, the EV maker delivered 3,099 units in the last quarter of 2024, bringing its annual figures to 10,241 vehicles.

Deliveries in the fourth quarter rose by 79% when compared to the last quarter of 2023 while the annual figures increased 71%
