Lucid Motors Registers 19 Vehicles in Germany in January

Lucid Motors registered 19 vehicles in Germany in January, according to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority released on Wednesday.

The California-based EV maker ended 2024 with 20 registrations in December, bringing its total for the year to 392 units in the German market.

As EV recently reported exclusively, Lucid plans to expand its European retail strategy by introducing a third-party dealership network alongside its existing company-owned showrooms, known as ‘Lucid Studios.’ The company also aims to enter new European markets, including Belgium, in 2025.

Tesla saw its sales drop 59.5% year over year to 1,277 units the Chinese giant BYD registered 235 vehicles, up 69% year over year. XPeng and Nio recorded 94 and 18 units, respectively.

Polestar, a brand from the Chinese Geely Holding Group, more than doubled registrations to 235 vehicles.

Lucid had recorded 129 and 116 new Air sedans in October and November, respectively, with deliveries boosted by a fleet deal with German rental company SIXT, which now offers Lucid vehicles for rent in Germany.

Lucid opened in October a showroom in Hamburg, its fourth in Germany and eighth in Europe, following the Frankfurt showroom’s launch in September. Lucid’s presence in Germany includes stores in Munich and Düsseldorf, which opened in May 2022 and September 2023, respectively.

Lucid announced at the time that SIXT would receive models from its entire Lucid Air lineup available in Europe, including the Air Pure, Air Touring, and Air Grand Touring. While the size of the order was not disclosed, the company’s registrations surged in the fourth quarter, reaching 265 vehicles, compared with just 127 units in the first nine months of the year.

In 2024, sales of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in Germany have fallen by 24.2% to to 380,609 units, a decline mainly attributed to the removal of EV incentives in the country at the end of 2023. The market share of BEVs dropped to 13.5%.
