The electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Motors is gearing up to release an over-the-air (OTA) update that will integrate Android Auto to all its Lucid Air vehicles later this year.
This development will enable Lucid Air owners to mirror their Android devices onto the car’s dashboard, providing access to a suite of apps, including navigation, music, messaging, and more.
Nick Twork, Lucid’s new Head of Global Communications, confirmed the update on social media platform X, stating, “Confirming today that Android Auto software is scheduled for OTA update to Lucid Motors Air this Fall.”
Here’s the official video the Android Auto software:
Android Auto, which was launched a decade ago in 2014, has undergone numerous enhancements to improve its functionality and user experience. It can be integrated into cars during manufacturing or added later.
At the recent I/O 2024 conference, Google announced that its automotive interface is now compatible with over 200 million cars globally.
In a recent interview, the CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson teased the brand’s upcoming SUV, Gravity. Rawlinson expressed bold confidence in the new model, criticizing the current electric SUVs on the market by stating, “none of the electric SUVs available are very good.”
In the same interview, Rawlinson voiced concerns about the advantages Chinese automakers enjoy due to substantial government support and lower labor costs.
The chief executive emphasized the challenges posed by China’s lower labor rates, which make it difficult for Western companies to compete on cost. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in Lucid’s technological edge.
