Electric carmaker Lucid Motors launched on Thursday a new AI voice assistant feature capable of maintaining a conversation with the drivers while accessing real-time data. Additionally, the hands-free tool enables control of “many vehicle functions” through voice commands.
The new feature was launched in partnership with SoundHound, a California-based voice artificial intelligence firm. In a statement, Lucid’s Head of Software Engineering, Dr. Jean-Philippe Gauthier, said the Lucid Assistant will be improved over time with over-the-air software updates.
“Lucid Assistant can grow in functionality and capability over time, delivering an ever-better experience for Lucid owners,” the executive said. The assistant is available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, German, and Dutch, with SoundHound adding that additional languages are “coming soon.”
The Lucid Assistant, similar to Apple’s Siri, responds to the wake words “Hey Lucid” and provides real-time answers to questions about weather, sports, stocks, and more. Many of the features and functions can also be accessed without needing a cellular connection, according to SoundHound.
Last month, the EV maker partnered with the Saudi Authority for Accredited Valuers (TAQEEM) to improve repair quality, improve technical expertise, and ensure fair compensation for vehicle owners.
The company is expected to release its fourth quarter delivery figures after the market closes on Thursday or before it opens on Friday.
